A functional rig is built for your room, bolted to your floor and rarely fits anyone else’s space — and funders price that in.

Yes, but understand how funders see a rig. Because it is configured for a specific room and bolted into the floor or wall, a functional training frame is close to a fixture: dismantling and reselling a bespoke rig recovers very little. Funders therefore lend against the gym’s trading record with a personal guarantee, not against the steel. Used rigs are seldom funded because they rarely suit another site. The point that catches operators out is the landlord — bolting a rig into a leased building normally needs consent, and some funders want a waiver confirming the rig stays yours.
Used kit: Rarely — second-hand rigs are usually configured for the room they came from, so funders see little resale value and generally decline.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
A functional rig is the clearest example in the fitness sector of an asset that becomes a fixture. Once bolted down and configured to a particular ceiling height and floor plan, it is worth a fraction of its cost to anyone else, and the cost of removing and making good the building falls on whoever recovers it. Funders treat that spend as effectively unsecured. What follows is practical: rigs place best when they sit on a schedule alongside recoverable equipment such as cardio, rowers or selectorised machines, and when the gym has trading history to support the file. Expect a personal guarantee, expect questions about the remaining lease term, and expect the landlord’s position to come up where the installation involves bolting into a structural slab or wall.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Typically a functional or small-group training gym building out a central rig with storage, attachments and rig-mounted stations. Established clubs converting a studio to a functional zone are the other case. The trigger is a shift in programming — small-group classes and circuits replacing machine-based training — and a room that needs rebuilding to suit it. Personal training studios building a single central rig for small-group sessions ask for the same thing.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Because value depends on fit. A selectorised machine works in any gym, so there is a ready market for it. A rig cut to your ceiling height with your attachment layout suits very few other rooms, and it must be unbolted and transported before it can be sold. Funders weigh that recovery reality.
Check your lease, but alterations that involve fixing into the structure usually require written consent, and you may also have a reinstatement obligation at the end of the term. Separately, a funder may ask the landlord to confirm they will not treat the rig as part of the building. Deal with both early.
Yes, and it helps. Attachments, storage racks, barbells, plates and mats are loose items with some resale value, so including them improves the overall asset mix on the schedule. Suppliers usually quote the whole package anyway, which fits how funders prefer to see the order presented.
It matters to you more than to them, but it can come up. If your lease requires the unit to be returned to its original condition, the cost of removing the rig and making good the floor sits with your business. Building that into your planning avoids a nasty surprise at lease end.
Somewhat. A freestanding frame that is weighted rather than bolted is not a fixture, can be moved and retains more resale value, which reads better to a funder. Whether it suits your programming and your floor loading is a separate question, and your supplier should advise on that.
