How van finance works

You put down a deposit, then make fixed monthly payments over an agreed term, typically two to five years. What happens at the end depends on the agreement you choose. We are a credit broker, not a lender, so we approach the lenders whose criteria actually fit your business rather than defending a single credit policy.

Hire purchase on a van

Hire purchase is the most common route for businesses buying vans on finance. You pay a deposit and fixed instalments, and once the final payment clears the van is yours. Because a hire purchase van sits on your balance sheet as an asset from day one, it usually suits businesses that keep vehicles long term.

Finance lease and contract hire

A finance lease funds the depreciation rather than the full value, so monthly payments are lower and the VAT is normally spread across the rentals instead of paid up front. Contract hire hands the disposal risk back to the lender for a fixed monthly cost. Both suit businesses replacing vans on a cycle.

How to finance a van

The lender assesses affordability, your trading history and the vehicle itself. Getting a van on finance is usually quicker than people expect once the right lender is approached first — rather than applying to several and leaving a credit footprint each time.

Where to go next

Commercial van finance for businesses

Commercial van finance is assessed on the business rather than on you personally. For a limited company that usually opens up better terms than a personal agreement, and it keeps the vehicle where it belongs in your accounts. We finance vans for limited companies, sole traders, new starts and applicants with adverse credit.

Frequently asked questions

What is van finance?
Van finance is a way of paying for a vehicle over time rather than up front. You put down a deposit and make fixed monthly payments over an agreed term. Depending on the agreement you either own the van at the end or hand it back.
How does van finance work?
You choose the van, we approach the lenders whose criteria fit your business, and the lender pays the supplier directly. You then repay over the term, typically two to five years. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender.
Can I get a van on finance with bad credit?
Often yes. Lenders weigh how recent the adverse credit is, what caused it and how things have gone since, alongside affordability and deposit. We cannot promise acceptance, but we will tell you honestly what is realistic before you commit.
How much is a van on finance each month?
It depends on the price of the van, your deposit, the term and the agreement type. Use the calculator above for a guide, then tell us what you are looking at and we will give you a realistic indication.
Can I get van finance if I am self-employed?
Yes. Self-employment narrows which lenders will consider you rather than ruling you out. Several lenders on our panel work specifically with sole traders and contractors, including those without a full set of filed accounts.
Can I hire out my van when it is on finance?
Usually not without the lender’s written consent. While the agreement runs the lender retains an interest in the vehicle, and most agreements restrict hiring it out or subletting.
Do you cover my area?
Yes — CW Asset Finance is based in Tadcaster and works with clients Leeds, York, Harrogate, Wakefield, Selby, Tadcaster & across North & West Yorkshire, as well as nationwide.
