Taxi finance is assessed differently from ordinary car finance, because the vehicle is a working asset doing motorway mileage rather than a family car. We arrange funding for hackney carriages, private hire vehicles and WAVs across a panel of 60+ lenders, including several who work specifically with self-employed drivers. We also arrange private hire car finance for PHV drivers and operators.

What you can fund

Hackney carriages

Purpose-built and converted taxis for licensed drivers.

Private hire vehicles

Saloons, estates and MPVs for PHV operators.

Wheelchair-accessible

WAVs and converted vehicles from specialist lenders.

Electric & hybrid taxis

Fund the switch ahead of tightening emissions rules.

Fleet operators

Multiple vehicles funded together on one facility.

First-time drivers

Newly licensed drivers without established trading history.

Why taxi finance UK-wide is its own thing

A taxi covers three to five times the mileage of a private car and is replaced far sooner. Lenders pricing on standard car residuals get that wrong in both directions, which is why drivers are often quoted terms that make no sense — or declined outright by a lender who never funds private hire.

Going to the lenders who understand plated vehicles from the outset avoids that, and avoids the credit footprints that come from applying to the wrong ones first.

Self-employed drivers

Almost every taxi driver is self-employed, and many do not have two or three years of filed accounts — particularly new drivers or those who have recently gone independent. That narrows the lender list rather than closing it. Bank statements, licensing details and a deposit all help build the case.

Hackney, private hire and WAVs

We fund hackney carriages, private hire saloons and estates, and wheelchair-accessible vehicles. WAVs are converted vehicles with a narrower resale market, so they need a lender comfortable with conversions rather than one pricing a standard model.

Electric and hybrid taxis

Many licensing authorities are tightening emissions requirements, which is pushing drivers towards hybrid and electric vehicles ahead of their normal replacement cycle. The purchase price is higher but running costs are lower, and the funding can be structured so the monthly payment is offset by the fuel saving.

Plating, licensing and the first vehicle

The hardest vehicle to fund is the first one, before there is any trading history as a driver. Tell us where you are in the licensing process — several lenders will consider an application on the strength of a granted licence and a deposit.

This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. Frequently asked questions

Can I get taxi finance if I am self-employed?
Yes — almost all taxi drivers are. Self-employment narrows which lenders will consider you rather than ruling you out, and several on our panel work specifically with drivers who do not have a full set of filed accounts.
Can I finance a taxi as a newly licensed driver?
It is harder without trading history as a driver, but not impossible. A granted licence, a deposit and clean recent conduct all help. Tell us where you are in the licensing process and we will tell you what is realistic.
Do you finance wheelchair-accessible vehicles?
Yes. WAVs are converted vehicles with a narrower resale market, so they need a lender comfortable with conversions rather than one pricing a standard model. We know which ones are.
Can I get taxi finance with bad credit?
Often yes. Lenders look at how recent the adverse credit is, affordability now and the deposit, alongside the vehicle. We cannot promise acceptance, but we will give you a straight answer before any application is made.
Can I finance an electric or hybrid taxi?
Yes, and it is increasingly common as licensing authorities tighten emissions rules. The higher purchase price can often be offset against lower running costs when the term is set sensibly.
Do you cover my area?
Yes — CW Asset Finance is based in Tadcaster and works with clients Leeds, York, Harrogate, Wakefield, Selby, Tadcaster & across North & West Yorkshire, as well as nationwide.
