Most organisations start by searching for a minibus for sale, not for minibus finance — and then discover that the vehicle, the seating configuration and the funding are one decision, not three. We help schools, care homes, charities and operators find the right minibus and arrange the funding, across a panel of 60+ UK lenders.

A minibus is bought on specification far more than on price. Getting the specification wrong is expensive and difficult to undo, so it is worth being deliberate about five things before you look at a single vehicle.
The step from a 16 seater minibus to a 17 seater minibus is not just one seat. Above 16 passenger seats the vehicle becomes a PSV for most purposes, which changes licensing, driver requirements and operating obligations. A 17 seater minibus can be the right answer, but it should be a decision rather than an accident.
Below that, a 9 seater minibus can usually be driven on a standard car licence, which is why community groups and smaller care providers often stop there.
Anyone who passed their test before 1997 generally has D1 entitlement. Anyone who passed after does not, and will need to obtain it. Before buying a larger minibus, check who will actually be allowed to drive it — a vehicle nobody can legally drive is the most expensive mistake in this market.
A used minibus for sale from a specialist dealer at half the price of new often makes better financial sense, particularly for organisations covering modest annual mileage. Ex-fleet vehicles are frequently well maintained with full service history. The trade-off is a shorter available finance term, because lenders cap the vehicle age at the end of the agreement rather than at the start.
If you may need wheelchair access later, it is far cheaper to buy a vehicle already suitable for conversion than to adapt an unsuitable one. Tail lifts, ramps and floor tracking all affect payload and seat count, so factor them in at specification stage.
Once you have found the vehicle, the funding should fit the organisation rather than the other way round. Schools and academy trusts often align repayments to a budget or academic year. Care providers and charities may be part-funding through a grant. Operators usually want the vehicle earning before the first payment lands. All of that is arrangeable, and it is easier to structure before you commit than after.
