Who pays the supplier?

In almost all cases the lender pays the supplier directly. Once your agreement is signed and any conditions are satisfied, the funds go from the lender to the dealer, manufacturer or vendor — not through you and not through us. You then repay the lender over the agreed term.

Paying the supplier direct is deliberate. It means the funder knows the money has gone on the asset it is taking security over, and it means you are not handling or holding the funds.

If you have already paid a deposit to the supplier, that is usually deducted from the amount financed. If you are buying privately rather than from a dealer, some lenders will not fund the purchase at all and others apply extra checks on ownership and condition, which can take longer.

Be cautious with any request to pay a supplier by an unusual route or to a changed bank account. Verify payment details directly with the supplier using a number you already hold, not one supplied in an email.
