Refrigerated merchandiser finance
Display refrigeration is the one part of a convenience store fit-out that a funder can actually recover and sell on.

Can you finance a refrigerated merchandiser?
Yes, and it is one of the stronger retail assets to fund. Multideck chillers and refrigerated merchandisers from recognised manufacturers have serial numbers, an active dealer market and a long working life, so funders have a genuine security position — unlike the shelving and counters around them. Used units are fundable through dealers. The thing to watch is the refrigeration system: integral units with built-in condensers are easily recovered, while cabinets connected to a remote pack become part of the shop’s plant and are far harder to treat as standalone assets.
Used kit: Yes, used refrigerated merchandisers fund well through dealers, particularly integral units with recent service history.

What would a refrigerated merchandiser cost per month?
Asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what the buttons show, with the equivalent APR beside it. Your exact rate depends on the asset, the term, the deposit and the lender.
Prime is an established, profitable business with clean credit. Specialist covers newer businesses and credit that needs explaining — the asset itself carries part of the risk, which is why finance is often available where an unsecured loan is not.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 5.15% flat rate (equivalent to 9.9% APR representative), you would repay around £628 a month; total amount repayable approximately £30,150, of which £5,150 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval.
Rates shown are indicative flat rates with the equivalent APR alongside — the two are not the same number. Indicative only and does not constitute a quote or an offer of finance. Subject to status and lender approval.
How lenders treat it
Refrigeration is the exception within a retail fit-out and worth highlighting to any store owner. An integral multideck can be wheeled out, loaded and sold, dealers trade them constantly, and they hold value far better than shelving or counters ever will. That gives funders a security position and broadens appetite. Two qualifications matter. First, remote systems: where cabinets are connected to a central pack and condensing plant on the roof, the installation is effectively part of the building and the recoverable element shrinks to the cabinets alone. Second, age and refrigerant — cabinets using older refrigerants face a less certain future and are valued cautiously. Beyond that, expect the normal assessment of accounts and banking, with a personal guarantee for independent retailers.

Who buys one
Typically a convenience store or forecourt operator replacing chillers that are failing temperature checks, or a shop expanding its chilled and food-to-go range because that is where the margin is. Butchers, farm shops, delis and bakeries buy the same equipment. The trigger is often an energy bill, a failed audit or a symbol group refit specification. Food-to-go operators and coffee shops adding chilled display units are a growing group.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Refrigerated merchandiser finance questions
What is the difference between integral and remote cabinets?
An integral unit has its own compressor and condenser built in, so it plugs in and works. A remote cabinet relies on a central refrigeration pack elsewhere in the building. Integral units are simpler to install and much easier for a funder to recover, which is why they sit better on an agreement.
Does refrigerant type affect funding?
It can influence value. Cabinets using older refrigerants have a less certain long-term future as regulations tighten, which a funder thinking about residual value will notice. Current natural refrigerant models are viewed more comfortably, and they usually run more efficiently, which matters to your energy costs too.
Can I fund refrigeration alongside the shopfit?
Yes, and it strengthens the package. Refrigeration gives the funder something recoverable to sit alongside unrecoverable joinery and flooring. Make sure the quotation separates the cabinets from the installation works, because the funder is assessing those two things very differently. The cabinets carry the security; the pipework, drainage and electrical connections do not, however they are described on the paperwork.
Is refinance possible on existing refrigeration?
It can be, given these units hold value and are identifiable. A funder would want proof of ownership, serial numbers, age and condition, and would lend against current market value. It is one of the few retail assets where the conversation is worth having at all.
What about servicing and temperature monitoring?
Those are operating costs outside the agreement, but they matter to the asset. A well-maintained cabinet with service records holds more value and causes fewer problems. Funders occasionally ask about maintenance arrangements on larger refrigeration packages for exactly that reason. Keeping service reports filed also helps if you ever look at refinancing or trading the cabinets in.
