A presetter takes tool setting off the machine and puts it on a bench, which is worth more in a busy shop than most people expect.

Yes, though usually as part of a larger purchase rather than on its own. A tool presetter is funded as equipment, typically on hire purchase, and used machines from recognised makers are fundable. The obstacle is value: a presetter is modest compared with a machining centre, and many funders will not write an agreement that small. The other thing buyers overlook is the software and data link to the machine controls, which is a soft cost and can be a meaningful share of the quote once integration is included.
Used kit: Yes — used presetters are fundable from known makers, with optics condition and software support counting more than the machine’s age.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Underwriters treat presetters as good quality but small-ticket equipment. Established names hold value and there is a steady used trade through machine tool dealers, so recovery is possible, but the sums involved rarely justify a standalone proposal for a larger funder. Most presetters therefore get funded as a line within a machine tool deal, where they are simply part of the invoice. Where sold separately, brand and whether the optics and control remain supported determine value, in the same way control generation governs a machine tool. Software, data interfaces and holders are soft. Because presetters are bought by established shops making efficiency investments rather than by start-ups, the credit profile behind these deals is usually strong. Refusals are nearly always a question of size or covenant.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Machine shops running multiple machining centres where setup time is eating spindle hours, particularly those doing short runs with frequent changeovers. Also shops with a tool management system trying to get consistent offsets into the control without touching off on the machine. The trigger is often an audit of where the week actually goes, showing hours lost to setting tools in the spindle.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Sometimes, through funders who write smaller agreements, but it often falls under a minimum. The usual route is to include it on the invoice with a machine tool purchase, where it is absorbed into a larger facility without difficulty. Tell us the full list of what you are buying and we will structure it accordingly.
It is soft cost, so treatment varies. Where the presetter is part of a larger machine deal, the software often rides along inside the funder’s soft-cost allowance. On a standalone purchase it is more likely to be excluded. Ask for the quote split so there is no surprise about what the advance actually covers.
Experienced asset funders do. Presetting is a recognised efficiency investment in machining, and an underwriter who knows the sector will see it as a sign of a well-run shop rather than a luxury. It is rarely the reason a proposal succeeds or fails; the credit profile does that.
They can be, particularly from a dealer who has checked the optics and can supply current software. The values are modest so the same deal-size question arises. A used presetter bought alongside a used machining centre from the same dealer is the easiest version of this to arrange.
Yes, on the same basis. Shrink-fit units, balancing machines and tool cabinets are all equipment a funder can identify, though each is small in value. Bundled into one facility with a machine or a group of items, they are straightforward. Individually they usually fall below what most funders will write.
