Waterjet cuts what a laser cannot touch, and the pump is the part a funder actually wants to talk about.

Yes. Abrasive waterjet machines are funded as hard assets, usually on hire purchase, and used machines are fundable where the pump and cutting head are in known condition. What catches buyers out is that a waterjet is a plant installation as much as a machine. Water treatment, abrasive handling and removal, tank drainage, a large electrical supply and a solid floor all form part of the project, and civils and site works generally sit outside the finance. The pump type and hours drive the used value more than anything else.
Used kit: Yes — used waterjets fund reasonably well, generally up to around ten years old, with pump hours and condition weighing heaviest.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. Funders regard waterjets as reasonable security with a narrower market than laser cutting. The machines are identifiable and there is a specialist used trade, but fewer buyers means slower resale, and the advance reflects that. The technical focus is the high-pressure pump: intensifier and direct-drive pumps both have service lives, seal and cylinder replacement is a real cost, and a machine with a tired pump of unknown hours is valued cautiously whatever the frame looks like. Control generation and continued support matter in the usual way. Nesting software, abrasive, garnet handling and consumable nozzles are soft or running costs. The commercial read is that waterjet shops are often niche subcontractors with concentrated customers, so funders ask about the work behind the machine. Declines follow weak covenant or a very old unsupported machine.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Subcontract profilers cutting thick plate, stone, glass, composites and heat-sensitive materials, plus aerospace and defence suppliers where a heat-affected zone is not acceptable. Also bought by architectural metalworkers and stone fabricators. The trigger is usually a material a laser cannot handle, or a customer asking for thicknesses beyond the profiling capacity already in the building. Some buyers come to it after quoting the same awkward job three times and subcontracting it out every time.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Sometimes as equipment, where the units are supplied on the machine invoice and are identifiable. What falls outside is the drainage, tanking, concrete and pipework, because those are building works. Waterjet installations carry more civils than most machine purchases, so build that into the budget from the outset.
Closely. The high-pressure pump is the highest-wear component and rebuilding one is a serious expense, so a funder wants the hours and the service record. A machine with a recently serviced or replaced pump, evidenced on paper, will attract a better advance than one where nobody can say what the pump has done.
Funders do not favour one design over the other; they look at condition, hours and support. Both types have an established place and both are traded second-hand. What matters is whether parts and seal kits are available and whether the pump has been maintained, not which principle it works on.
No. Garnet is a consumable, like wire on an EDM or gas on a laser, and funders advance against assets rather than materials. It is a running cost that belongs in your hourly rate calculation. The machine, pump, tank and handling equipment are the elements available to finance.
Slightly, because there are fewer buyers if a funder ever needs to sell one and the installations are more involved. It is a difference of degree, not a barrier. Well-specified machines from recognised builders are funded regularly, with the advance reflecting the narrower resale market.
