Not at the enquiry stage. We do not run a credit search when you first get in touch or when we give you an indicative quote. A full credit search — a hard search — is only carried out once you have accepted the quote and given consent for your data to be processed.
That sequence matters, because hard searches are recorded on your file and other lenders can see them. Several in a short space of time can make a business look like it is being declined repeatedly, even when it is not.
It is also why we do not shotgun applications across the whole panel. We know the lenders’ criteria, so we approach the ones likely to say yes rather than applying everywhere and leaving a trail of searches behind us.
You will always know before a hard search happens. If you would rather understand your options first without anything touching your file, say so and we will keep it at the indicative stage.
