Rigids cover everything from urban multi-drop to heavy aggregate work, so the right funder depends far more on the body fitted than on the chassis badge.

Yes. A rigid truck is funded as one asset where chassis and body are bought together, or as two linked facilities where the body is built after the chassis is delivered. Used rigids fund across the full weight range and the market for them is active. The complication most buyers hit is the split invoice: a chassis dealer bills for the cab and chassis, and a separate bodybuilder bills for the curtainside, box or tipping gear. Funders treat bodywork differently to chassis, so that second invoice needs raising before the deal is structured, not after.
Used kit: Yes — used rigids are funded widely, often into their tenth year or beyond where the body is sound and the chassis has a documented service record.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Rigids are assessed on how specialised the body is. A curtainside or box rigid on a common chassis resells easily and funders treat it close to a tractor unit. A rigid with a purpose-built body — bespoke racking, a specialist tank, a one-client livery — narrows the buyer pool and the funder will want a stronger covenant to compensate. Weight class matters too: anything over 3.5 tonnes brings the O-licence into scope, so the licence position is checked before terms are confirmed. Where the body is being built separately, funders will usually fund the chassis on delivery and release the body element against the bodybuilder’s invoice on completion, which needs planning around lead times.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Typically an operator whose work does not justify an artic — builders’ merchants, regional distribution, brewery and drinks delivery, plant hire firms moving their own kit. Often triggered by a contract that specifies a particular tail lift or body length, or by an existing rigid reaching the point where MOT prep costs more than the monthly cost of replacing it.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Yes, where both are invoiced before payout. If the bodybuilder is working to a longer lead time, funders commonly stage it — pay the chassis supplier on delivery, then release the body element against the second invoice. The agreement starts properly once the complete vehicle is on the road, which avoids paying for a chassis sitting in a yard.
Anything over 3.5 tonnes gross used in connection with a business generally falls under operator licensing in Great Britain, with some exemptions. That means a 7.5 tonne rigid is already in scope. Funders check the licence position because a vehicle that cannot be specified on a disc cannot generate the income that repays the agreement.
Usually. Bodies age differently to chassis — a curtainside frame or dry box can outlast the running gear comfortably. Funders look at whether the body is repairable and resaleable rather than at hours. A refrigerated or specialist body is scrutinised more closely because the equipment inside it has its own life.
Often yes, if the vehicle is clear of finance and the age suits the funder. Refinancing an owned rigid releases working capital against an asset already earning. The vehicle is inspected or valued, HPI checked, and the funder takes title. It is a common route for operators who bought for cash and now want the money back in the business.
It varies by funder, by whether the truck is new or used, and by trading history. Some agreements are structured with a contribution up front, others are not. We will tell you what the market is likely to want for your specific circumstances before you commit to a vehicle, so there are no surprises at the dealership.
