Tankers are built for one product family, and what the tank was designed to carry determines both the resale market and the funder who will write it.

Yes. A tanker funds as either a rigid vehicle or a tank trailer, with the barrel treated as specialist equipment. Used tankers fund, though the panel narrows considerably. The critical detail is product classification: a food-grade stainless tank, a petroleum tanker and a powder tanker are entirely different assets with different buyers, different certification and different regulatory burdens. Anything carrying dangerous goods brings ADR requirements and periodic tank testing into the picture, and funders will want to see that certification is current before releasing funds.
Used kit: Yes — used tankers fund, with barrel test certification and product history mattering far more than the age of the running gear.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Tanker underwriting is product-led. Food-grade stainless barrels from recognised builders hold value and have a decent second-hand market among dairy and liquid food hauliers. Petroleum and chemical tankers carry ADR obligations, periodic inspection and testing requirements, and a narrower buyer pool, so funders lean harder on the operator’s track record. Powder tankers with blower equipment are assessed with the compressor included. Across all types, funders check tank test dates carefully, because a barrel out of test is legally unusable and therefore worth far less. The operator side is heavily weighted towards experience and contracts — tanker haulage is not a sector newcomers walk into, and funders know it. Applications from operators without ADR-qualified drivers or relevant certification are rarely progressed.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Fuel distributors, milk and food liquid hauliers, chemical and industrial gas carriers, powder hauliers serving cement and plastics plants, and liquid waste and tankering firms. The trigger is usually a supply contract that specifies tank type and certification, or replacement of a barrel that has reached the end of its test life. Others are hauliers whose existing barrel is approaching the end of its test life and needs replacing before work is lost.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Effectively yes. Tanks carrying dangerous goods are subject to periodic inspection and testing, and a barrel out of test cannot legally be used. Funders check the dates because an untested tank is not a working asset. If a test is due soon after purchase, factor the cost and downtime into the deal rather than discovering it later.
Yes. Stainless food-grade barrels are among the more straightforward tankers to place because the dairy and liquid food sector buys them consistently and the barrels last. Funders will ask about your contract or the processor you haul for, and about cleaning arrangements, since food-grade work has its own hygiene requirements.
Not for every tanker, but for anything carrying dangerous goods you need ADR-qualified drivers and a dangerous goods safety adviser. Funders ask about it because without qualified drivers the vehicle cannot run legally. Non-hazardous work — food liquids, water, some powders — does not carry the same requirement.
Tank trailers usually, because they can be funded standalone and have a broader resale market than a purpose-built rigid. Rigid tankers suit local delivery and tight access work and fund fine, but the tank and chassis are tied together in value terms. Which you need depends on the delivery pattern rather than the finance.
Often yes, where it is clear of finance, in current test and the age suits the funder. Refinancing releases capital against a working asset, which tanker operators use to fund barrel testing, fleet expansion or working capital between contract payments. The tank is valued and inspected as part of the process.
