Can a poor business credit score be improved?

Yes, a business credit profile can improve, but only through changed behaviour and new data arriving over time — never through a quick fix. Agencies recalculate as fresh information reaches them, so a consistent record of filing and paying on time gradually outweighs older negative entries.

The practical steps are unglamorous and they are the ones that work. File statutory accounts and confirmation statements by the deadline. Pay trade suppliers, finance agreements and tax to terms. Keep your Companies House register accurate. Avoid running facilities permanently at their limit. And read your own file, because errors are more common than people expect and only the agency holding the data can correct them.

Timing is the part nobody can honestly promise. It depends on what is recorded, how heavily that entry weighs, and how long it is due to remain — adverse entries such as defaults and judgments generally sit on a file for six years from the date of the event, so some of the improvement is simply the passage of time. Ask the agency what applies to your own file.

Be wary of anyone offering to remove accurate adverse data or guarantee a score increase. CWAF is a finance broker. We do not repair credit, we cannot alter anything held about you by a credit reference agency, and we would not claim otherwise. What we can do is put a case, and the supporting context behind it, in front of funders who consider profiles the high street declines.
