Funding for flake and slurry ice plant on quaysides and aboard vessels, keeping catch and shellfish in condition from landing to market.

Yes. Marine ice plant is funded as refrigeration equipment, and the route depends on where it sits. A quayside ice plant serving a harbour or a processor is assessed as commercial refrigeration on the business operating it. An on-board flake or slurry ice machine is marine equipment fitted into a specific vessel. Used plant is fundable but treated cautiously because compressors and evaporators wear. The detail that catches buyers out is the supporting services — three phase power, water supply, condenser cooling and an ice store — which are site costs and not part of the machine.
Used kit: Yes — used ice plant funds where the compressor hours and service history are documented, though funders prefer new where the duty cycle is heavy.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Quayside plant is a mainstream refrigeration placement: identifiable equipment from known manufacturers with a reasonable industrial resale market, assessed on the operating business, whether that is a harbour authority, a cooperative or a private merchant. On-board systems are a different conversation entirely, because installing refrigeration into a hull ties the equipment to a vessel with no registration document and possibly an existing marine mortgage, so ownership of the boat has to be established before anything is bolted in. In both cases funders separate machine from installation: the ice maker, compressor and controls are fundable, while the ice store building, power upgrade, water connection and slab are site works that sit outside the agreement.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Harbour authorities and fishermen’s cooperatives running an ice plant for the fleet, processors icing product for dispatch, shellfish merchants, and skippers fitting on-board ice production to hold quality on longer trips. The trigger is usually a local ice supply becoming unreliable or uneconomic, a harbour investing to keep boats landing locally, or a buyer specifying iced product that the current arrangement cannot consistently deliver.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
The machine, augers and controls can be. A built ice store or insulated room forming part of a building is a site cost. Some modular silos supplied as equipment can be included, so tell us exactly what the supplier is quoting and we will split it correctly.
Yes. Once fitted, the machine is part of that vessel, so the funder records the boat on the agreement and checks whether existing marine finance sits over the hull. Boats carry no registration document, so we establish title from the registration entry and bills of sale.
Yes, and both are common applicants for quayside plant. They are assessed on their accounts, reserves and the landings the plant supports. A plant that keeps a fleet landing locally usually has a straightforward commercial case behind it. Landings supported, boats served and the cost of bought-in ice are the figures worth putting in front of a funder.
That is a site cost. Ice plant is power hungry and an incoming supply upgrade is often the largest single item in the project, but it belongs to the property and the network operator rather than to the equipment. Budget it separately and early. Speak to the network operator before you commit to a machine size.
For rapid chilling of pelagic species and shellfish it usually is, because the product cools faster and suffers less damage. From a funding perspective both are assessed the same way, so choose on process grounds and let the income case follow from the quality gain.
