Funding for pontoon boats used on inland water and for modular floating platforms rigged as working decks for lakeside and waterway contractors.

Yes, and which funder helps depends on whether the pontoon is a boat or a platform. A pontoon boat bought for leisure on a lake or broad is funded as a leisure marine asset, often on a regulated agreement. A modular floating work platform is funded as commercial plant, assessed on the work it supports. Used craft are fundable in both cases. The point that catches buyers out is that pontoon craft are less common in Britain than in North America, so the second-hand market here is thin and funders value them conservatively as a result.
Used kit: Yes — used pontoon craft fund where condition is sound, though a thin UK secondary market means values are assessed cautiously.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
These two uses go to opposite ends of the panel and putting a work platform to a leisure funder wastes everybody’s time. A leisure pontoon boat sits with the small marine panel, likely on a regulated agreement, with the usual title problem: no registration document, so ownership is evidenced by bill of sale and any Small Ships Register entry, and any prior marine finance settled. A modular work platform is assessed as plant, on the operator’s contracts and the transportability of the units. Funders in both cases allow for a thin UK resale market, since demand for pontoon craft here is nothing like the North American market these boats are built for. Moorings and launch access remain separate contracts throughout.

On the leisure side, owners of lakeside properties and inland waterway users who want a stable, sociable boat rather than a planing hull, often on private water where a licence permits it. On the commercial side, lake and reservoir contractors, tree surgeons working waterside, event operators and fish farm servicing crews who need a stable deck. The trigger is usually a specific job or site access problem that a conventional hull cannot solve.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
They can be funded, but the market here is small compared with North America and funders know it. That means a conservative view of resale value rather than a refusal. A boat from a recognised manufacturer supplied through a UK dealer is the easiest case.
Yes, and that is usually the better route. Bolt-together sections are identifiable, transportable and useful to a range of contractors, which makes them easier to place with an equipment funder than with a boat lender. Keep the supplier documentation and the section serial numbers, because a funder still needs to identify exactly what it has lent against.
Almost certainly, and it depends on the navigation authority or the landowner. That licence is entirely separate from the finance, as is any mooring or launch arrangement. Confirm you can legally keep and use the craft before committing to the purchase. Some private waters prohibit petrol engines entirely, which affects the specification.
Yes. Pontoon craft are usually outboard powered and the engine is normally funded with the boat, with its serial number recorded on the agreement. If you are repowering an existing platform the engine can be funded on its own instead. Check the transom bracket rating and the maximum power the deck is designed for.
Generally no. Funders need a manufactured asset they can identify, value and resell, and a home-assembled platform does not give them that. Proprietary modular systems from established suppliers are a different matter and place without much difficulty. A craft carrying proper conformity marking and UK dealer support is far simpler to fund than a one-off build.
