Can I finance an excavator or digger?

Yes. Excavators and diggers are straightforward assets to fund — they are serial-numbered, durable and easy to resell, so most plant lenders have appetite for them. Mini excavators, midi machines, large tracked and wheeled excavators and their attachments can all be considered, new or used. The lender makes the final decision.

Funding is normally arranged on hire purchase, where you pay a deposit and instalments and own the machine outright at the end, or on lease, where you pay to use it over an agreed term. Hire purchase suits operators who want to keep machines long term; leasing can suit those who prefer to change kit more often.

Age and hours are the usual sticking points. A late-model machine from a main dealer is the easiest case; an older, high-hours machine bought privately is harder, may attract a shorter term and may need a larger contribution from you. Attachments such as breakers, grabs and buckets are often added to the same agreement, but not every lender allows this.

Miss payments and the excavator can be taken back. If it is sold for less than you owe, you may still be liable for the shortfall depending on the agreement type. Tell us the machine, the year and the hours and we will tell you honestly what our panel is likely to do with it.
