A salon on wheels with hot water, a bath and a dryer — mobile grooming vans funded for groomers who would rather not pay shop rent.

Yes, mobile dog grooming vans are fundable, usually as a base van plus a specialist conversion on a single agreement. Used grooming vans place too, though the market for them is small. The honest qualifier is that this is a micro-business asset, and lenders underwrite the person as much as the van. The conversion — bath, hydrobath, dryer, water tank, generator and heating — can cost as much as the vehicle underneath it and almost none of that is recoverable value on resale. Expect a deposit, and expect the funder to ask about your client list.
Used kit: Yes, but the used market is thin — grooming vans come up rarely, and a well-built used conversion from a known converter is easier to fund than a newer home-built one.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
This sits at the difficult end of the LCV market, not because anything is wrong with it but because of the maths. The conversion dominates the cost and has a tiny resale audience, so a funder that has to recover the asset is selling a specialist van into a niche. That narrows the panel to lenders comfortable with small-ticket specialist conversions, and it raises the deposit expectation. What helps: a grooming qualification, evidence of an existing client base, a conversion from a recognised grooming converter rather than a home build, and a homeowner on the application. Franchise-backed applicants often fare better because the brand provides a model the lender can understand. Declines usually involve a complete start-up with no clients, no deposit and a self-built conversion nobody can value.

Qualified groomers going mobile after working in a salon, often because shop rent and rates no longer stack up against a van they can park at home. Also established salon owners adding a mobile unit to reach clients in villages, and franchisees buying into a mobile pet care brand. The trigger is usually either a lease ending or a waiting list of clients who cannot easily get to a high street salon.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
It is possible but expect to be asked for a deposit. Lenders want reassurance that clients exist, so a grooming qualification, a waiting list, social media following or a book of clients from a previous salon all carry weight. A homeowner on the application helps significantly.
Usually yes, if the converter supplies the complete vehicle on one invoice. Buying a van yourself and then having it converted separately is harder to fund neatly, because you end up with two transactions and the lender has to piece the asset together.
Yes, considerably. A conversion from a recognised grooming van builder can be valued and sold on. A self-built one cannot be valued with any confidence, and the electrics, water heating and gas arrangements raise safety questions. It narrows the lenders willing to write it.
Most groomers do, unless every client can reliably provide a power supply. Dryers and water heaters draw more than a domestic extension lead will comfortably give. A properly installed generator or leisure battery system is part of what makes the van a working salon.
It removes rent and business rates but adds fuel, servicing, insurance and a finance commitment on a specialist vehicle. It also limits how many dogs you can do in a day because of travel. Work out the realistic daily throughput before assuming it is the cheaper route.
