Recycling baler finance
Funding for vertical and horizontal balers that turn loose cardboard and plastic film into saleable bales rather than waste the contractor charges to remove.

Can you finance a recycling baler?
Yes, easily. A baler is conventional plant: a steel machine with a hydraulic ram, a serial number and a strong dealer and ex-hire market behind it. Vertical mill-size balers are commodity machines that resell without difficulty, and horizontal and channel balers, while larger, are still recoverable equipment rather than fixtures. Because the bales produced have a resale value, some funders will look at that material income as supporting evidence. Only the electrical connection and pit works, where relevant, sit outside the funded amount.
Used kit: Yes. Used and refurbished balers are widely traded and are among the easier second-hand assets in this sector to finance.

What would a recycling baler cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. How lenders treat it
Balers sit at the comfortable end of this sector. They are hydraulic machines with predictable wear, well-known manufacturers, a deep second-hand market and dealers who will take them back — recovery is straightforward, so funders lend against the machine rather than relying solely on your covenant, and your tenure of the building is largely irrelevant. Bigger horizontal and channel balers with conveyors and pits start to introduce installation works, and those civils are excluded in the usual way. The genuinely distinctive feature is the output: baled cardboard and film are traded commodities, so where you hold a merchant agreement for the material, that evidenced income can be presented as part of the affordability picture rather than a projected saving.

Who buys one
Retailers and wholesalers drowning in cardboard, print and packaging converters, plastics processors handling their own film waste, agricultural and horticultural businesses baling plastic, and waste management operators upgrading a sorting line. The trigger is normally a waste contractor charging to remove material that a merchant would pay for once it is baled, plus the yard space that loose cardboard swallows.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Recycling baler finance questions
Can the income from baled material be counted?
Where you have a merchant agreement to buy the bales, several funders will look at it. Recycled cardboard and film are traded commodities with published prices, so the revenue is real rather than modelled, though market prices move and funders allow for that. The material income supports the case; it does not replace your accounts.
Is a vertical or horizontal baler easier to finance?
Vertical mill-size machines are the simplest, being commodity items with a very liquid resale market. Horizontal and channel balers are fundable too but involve more installation, conveyors and sometimes a pit, and those works are treated as site costs rather than asset value. Throughput should drive the choice, not the funding route.
Do I need to own my premises?
No. A baler is freestanding plant bolted to a floor slab at most, so the fixture and landlord waiver issues that dog solar and heating projects do not apply. You will still want landlord agreement to the power supply and the space it occupies. Three-phase availability is the usual practical constraint.
Are refurbished balers a sensible option?
Often, yes. Balers are mechanically robust, the technology is stable, and reconditioned machines from established dealers perform well. Funders are comfortable with them where there is a service record and the hydraulics and ram have been inspected before sale. Ask for photographs of the ram and chamber before committing.
Can I finance a baler and a compactor together?
Yes, and it is common to handle both on one agreement where they come from the same supplier on a single invoice. Businesses frequently bale cardboard for sale while compacting general waste, and funders are happy to see the two assets together. Two separate suppliers usually means two separate agreements.
