Can you finance a voltage optimisation?
Yes, though voltage optimisation is a modest ticket that often rides alongside a larger electrical project. The unit is a transformer-based cabinet wired into your incoming supply, which makes it part of the building’s electrical infrastructure once installed — a fixture in practice, even though the cabinet itself is a discrete piece of equipment. Recovery value is limited because units are sized to a specific site. Funders lend mainly against the business, and many applications are packaged with solar, lighting or wider upgrade works rather than presented alone.
Used kit: Rarely. Units are specified to a particular supply and load, so a second-hand unit seldom suits another site well enough to be worth funding.

What would a voltage optimisation cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
How lenders treat it
Voltage optimisation is a small, awkward asset in funding terms. The cabinet is wired permanently into the incoming supply and sized to the site’s load, so it is neither portable nor generic — resale to another building is unlikely, and funders treat it as close to a fixture. The saving claim is the other sensitive point: benefits depend entirely on the incoming voltage and the load mix, and funders have seen enough optimistic projections to discount them. Cases are usually decided on the trading business alone. Tenants will typically need landlord consent to work in the switchroom and, if a waiver is requested, to sign it. The most common route we see is bundling the unit into a larger energy project where the overall asset value supports the facility.
Makes and models we fund
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Who buys one
Retail chains with identical store layouts, hotels and care homes with heavy lighting and motor loads, light manufacturers running older induction motors, and landlords improving shared services in multi-let buildings. The trigger is usually an energy audit flagging a high incoming supply voltage, or a wider refurbishment where the switchroom is being worked on anyway and the disruption cost is already being taken.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Voltage optimisation finance questions
Can voltage optimisation be funded on its own?
It can, but the ticket is often small enough that funders would rather see it as part of a wider project. Combining it with lighting, solar or switchgear works usually produces a better outcome, because the overall asset package is more substantial and easier to underwrite.
Will a funder accept the supplier’s savings projection?
Treat it as supporting colour rather than proof. Benefits depend on your incoming voltage and what you actually run, and funders discount projections heavily. A metered site survey showing your real supply voltage carries more weight than a generic percentage figure in a brochure. Ask for the survey data rather than the headline claim.
Is the unit removable at the end of the agreement?
Physically it can be disconnected, but it is hard-wired into the incoming supply and sized to your site, so nobody realistically takes one out for resale. Funders know this, which is why the application leans on the business rather than on the equipment. End-of-agreement options are settled contractually, not by anyone removing the cabinet.
Do I need landlord permission as a tenant?
Almost certainly, because the work happens in the intake or switchroom, which in most multi-let buildings is landlord territory. Raise it before you order. Where the funder asks for a waiver as well, the landlord will need to sign that too. Managing agents can take weeks to respond, so start early.
Is power factor correction treated the same way?
Broadly, yes. A correction panel is a cabinet wired into the distribution board, sized to your load, with the same limited resale prospects. It is frequently quoted alongside voltage optimisation and funded within the same agreement as one electrical package. Sites with many motors and drives tend to see the strongest case.
