Breaker attachment finance
A breaker is the attachment most contractors hire far too often before buying one, and it funds most easily when it arrives with the machine.

Can you finance a breaker attachment?
Yes, though attachments behave differently to machines in a funder’s eyes. A hydraulic breaker bought on the same invoice as an excavator is funded without a second thought, as part of one identifiable package. A breaker bought on its own is harder: it has no hour meter a funder trusts, it is easily moved between machines and yards, and recovering one is much less straightforward than recovering a digger. It is still fundable, particularly for an established business or as part of a wider attachment order, but expect a shorter profile and sometimes a contribution.
Used kit: Yes, where the seal and tool condition are documented — used breakers of six to eight years fund, ideally bundled with a carrier machine.

What would a breaker attachment cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. How lenders treat it
Attachments sit awkwardly between hard and soft. The metal has real value and established brands like Epiroc, Rammer, Montabert and Indeco genuinely resell, but there is no registration, no meter and nothing stopping the item moving to another site. Funders therefore prefer breakers packaged with the carrier machine, where they form part of a single secured asset. Standalone attachment applications get scored more like soft assets, with a shorter profile and closer attention to the applicant’s trading history. Hire companies do better than owner-operators here because the attachment fleet has documented rental income behind it. A used breaker with unknown service history is the weak case; a recently rebuilt unit from a recognised dealer with paperwork is the strong one.

Who buys one
Demolition and groundworks contractors breaking out concrete slabs, hard dig and old foundations, utilities gangs cutting through reinstated highway, and plant hire companies renting breakers alongside excavators. The trigger is repetition rather than any single job: once a contractor has hired the same size breaker three or four times in a season, the hire invoices have quietly paid for a good used one and the next hire starts to feel like money thrown away.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Breaker attachment finance questions
Is it easier to finance a breaker with the digger?
Considerably. On one invoice with the carrier machine it becomes part of a single secured asset and funds on the machine’s terms. Bought alone it is assessed more like a soft asset because it cannot be traced or recovered as easily. If you know you need one, order it with the machine.
Can I finance a used breaker?
Yes, where the condition is evidenced. Seal condition, tool wear and any rebuild history are what matter, and a unit supplied by a recognised dealer with paperwork is far easier to place than a private purchase. Expect a shorter repayment profile than you would get on a machine.
Does the breaker need to match my excavator?
For the work, absolutely — an oversized hammer damages the carrier and an undersized one will not break out. For the funding, it matters because a mismatched attachment is harder to resell. Buy the size the machine is rated for and the dealer will specify the correct hitch and hoses to go with it.
Can I fund a set of attachments together?
Yes, and it is usually the better approach. A breaker, a selector grab, a compaction plate and a set of buckets on one invoice reach a total that funders take seriously and present as one package rather than several small awkward applications. Ask the dealer to itemise each attachment separately.
Do attachments need to be insured separately?
They should be listed on your plant policy with their own values, because insurers will not always pay out on items not specifically noted. Attachments are commonly stolen from sites and yards, so check they are named on the schedule rather than assumed to be covered under the machine.
