Bulldozer finance
Dozers are bought for bulk earthmoving and landfill, and funders read the application as much as the machine because duty cycle decides what is left at the end.

Can you finance a bulldozer?
Yes. Crawler dozers are funded as large-ticket hard assets on hire purchase or lease, new or used, with CAT and Komatsu carrying the strongest names in the UK. Used machines are absolutely fundable. Where buyers get caught is the undercarriage. It is the single most expensive wear item on the machine, a dozer approaching a full undercarriage replacement is worth dramatically less than one that has just had it done, and no funder will advance against a machine as though that cost does not exist. Get the undercarriage measured before you agree a price.
Used kit: Yes. Used dozers fund well up to around eight to ten years where undercarriage and hours are evidenced; older machines usually need a contribution.

What would a bulldozer cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
How lenders treat it
Big-ticket tracked plant goes to funders with genuine heavy plant experience, not general lessors. Security is strong in absolute terms because CAT and Komatsu dozers sell internationally, but disposal is slow and expensive: the machine has to be moved on a heavy haulage low loader and the buyer pool is small. Funders therefore look hard at duty cycle, hours, undercarriage percentage and whether the machine carries GPS grade control, which adds real value. Landfill duty is treated more harshly than earthworks because of corrosion and debris damage. Applications are strongest when a named earthworks package sits behind them and the business has run dozers before. They fail when a contractor with excavator experience buys a dozer for a single job with no plan for it afterwards.

Who buys one
Bulk earthworks contractors on infrastructure and housing platform work, landfill and waste operators pushing and compacting cell material, quarry operators stripping overburden, and forestry or restoration contractors clearing and reinstating large areas of ground. The trigger tends to be a large earthmoving package with a defined volume of muck to shift, where a dozer paired with scrapers or articulated dumptrucks changes the economics entirely compared with running excavators and site dumpers across the same job.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Bulldozer finance questions
How much does undercarriage condition affect the finance?
Substantially. Undercarriage is the biggest single wear cost on a dozer and a funder values the machine net of what it will take to put right. A recent measured undercarriage report strengthens an application on a used machine considerably. Without one, expect a conservative valuation and a larger contribution.
Can GPS grade control be included in the agreement?
Yes, where it is factory or dealer fitted and itemised on the invoice. Grade control adds genuine value to a dozer and funders recognise that. Third-party systems bought separately and retro-fitted are harder to include, because they are movable equipment rather than part of the machine the funder holds title to.
Does landfill work make a dozer harder to finance?
It makes funders more careful. Landfill duty exposes a machine to corrosion, debris and constant heavy pushing, so residual assumptions come down. It does not stop the deal, but it routes it to funders who understand waste. Declaring it at the outset avoids an awkward conversation at end-of-term inspection.
Can I refinance a dozer to release working capital?
Yes, if you own it outright. Large plant is well suited to refinance because the capital tied up is significant. Title transfers to the funder and an agreed sum is paid to you against the valuation. Provide hours, undercarriage percentage, service history and photographs, because on an asset this size the valuation drives everything.
Do I need earthmoving experience to be approved?
It is not a formal requirement but it matters. Funders are far more comfortable with a business that has operated dozers before, because a dozer is only economic when it is fed properly by the rest of the fleet. A first-time buyer should expect closer questions about the work behind the purchase.
