Concrete mixer finance
Concrete mixing plant ranges from a site mixer in the back of a van to a volumetric body on a four-axle chassis, and each end is funded differently.

Can you finance a concrete mixer?
Yes, but how it is funded depends on what you are buying. A small site mixer is low-value plant, usually bundled with other equipment on one agreement. A volumetric or drum mixer is a different proposition entirely, because you are funding a commercial vehicle and a specialist body together. The point that catches buyers out is that the chassis and the body are often supplied and invoiced by two different companies, and funders prefer to hold title over one complete asset. Tell us early if the chassis and body are coming from separate suppliers so the paperwork can be structured properly.
Used kit: Yes for drum and volumetric mixers, typically up to around eight years on the body with chassis condition assessed separately.

What would a concrete mixer cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. How lenders treat it
Split this into two funder conversations. A drum or volumetric mixer on a chassis behaves like a specialist commercial vehicle: the chassis is liquid and easily valued, the body far less so, and funders will look at the combined asset while knowing the body is only worth much to another concrete operator. That routes the deal to funders who write specialist bodied vehicles rather than to a pure plant desk. Site mixers are the opposite — too low in value to interest anyone on their own, and best bundled. What funders want to see on a volumetric is the customer base: ready-mix income is repeat and local, and an operator with a settled round in an underserved area presents far better than a groundworks firm buying one for its own use only.

Who buys one
Small ready-mix and on-site concrete businesses, groundworks contractors who have got tired of waiting on delivery slots and part-load charges, and rural operators serving areas the big plants will not travel to. The trigger for volumetric buyers is usually the economics of small pours — paying for a full load to place a fraction of it — which makes mix-on-site pay for itself quickly on the right customer base.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Concrete mixer finance questions
Can the chassis and the mixer body go on one agreement?
Usually yes, and it is the cleaner way to do it. Where two suppliers are involved, the funder normally pays each against their own invoice but holds title over the completed vehicle. Tell us before ordering so the documentation reflects the build, rather than trying to reconcile two invoices after delivery.
Is a volumetric mixer harder to finance than a drum mixer?
Slightly, because the body is more specialised and there are fewer second-hand buyers for it. Volumetrics have become far more common in the UK though, and funders who write them regularly are comfortable. The strength of your customer base matters more here than the choice between the two body types.
Can a groundworks firm finance a mixer for its own use?
Yes, but the case is different from a ready-mix operator’s. A funder can see where a ready-mix business earns from the machine; a contractor using it internally is saving cost rather than generating income. Show the annual spend on delivered concrete you are replacing and the application makes sense.
Do I need an operator licence for a mixer truck?
For a mixer over the relevant weight threshold used commercially, an operator licence and a qualified driver are required. Funders do not police this but they will expect an established operator to have it in place. If you are new to running trucks, sort the licence in parallel with the finance rather than after delivery.
Can I finance a site mixer on its own?
Rarely worth applying for alone, because the value is too low for a standalone agreement to make sense to most funders. Add it to an invoice alongside a dumper, a compactor or a power float and it funds without difficulty as part of a properly sized package.
