Crusher finance

A mobile crusher turns a disposal cost into a saleable product, and the business case is usually strong enough that the funding question becomes about permits.

Can you finance a crusher?

Yes. Tracked jaw and impact crushers are funded as large-ticket hard assets, new or used, on hire purchase or lease. Terex Finlay and the compact EvoQuip range are well understood by plant funders and hold value because recycled aggregate demand is steady. The thing that genuinely holds these deals up is not credit but compliance: a crusher needs the right environmental permit or exemption for where it operates, and a funder financing a machine for a site with no settled permitting position is taking a risk on whether it can work at all. Have the permit position clear before you apply.

Used kit: Yes. Used crushers fund well up to around eight years, with wear part condition and hours driving the valuation more than age does.

What would a crusher cost per month?

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.

Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. How lenders treat it

This is specialist heavy plant and it goes to funders with a recycling or quarry desk. The security is substantial and the marques trade internationally, but disposal is slow, transport is expensive and the machine is only worth what it is worth after a hard life in a very abrasive environment. Funders look at wear parts closely: jaw plates, blow bars, liners and screen media are consumables with real cost, and a machine due a full set is valued accordingly. The environmental permit is the second gate. Established demolition and recycling businesses with permits in place and evidence of volumes get a good hearing, including manufacturer captives on new stock. A contractor buying a crusher speculatively, with no permitted site and no demolition arisings of its own, is the classic decline.

Who buys one

Demolition contractors crushing arisings on site rather than paying to tip them, muck-away and soil recycling operators, quarry operators adding mobile capacity, and civils firms on large infrastructure jobs where imported stone would otherwise swallow the margin. The trigger is almost always a tipping bill: once a contractor can see what disposal and imported fill are costing across a year, owning the crusher becomes obvious.

How it is treated for tax

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.

Crusher finance questions

Do I need an environmental permit before financing a crusher?

You need a clear permitting position, whether that is a permit, a mobile plant permit or a valid exemption for the site. Funders are not the regulator, but they do want to know the machine can legally work where you intend to run it. An unresolved permit is the most common cause of delay on these deals.

How do wear parts affect the valuation?

Considerably. Jaw plates, blow bars and liners are expensive consumables and a machine needing a full set is worth notably less than one recently refreshed. On a used purchase, get the wear part condition assessed and documented. It strengthens the application and it stops you paying for a machine you then have to rebuild.

Can I fund a crusher and screener together?

Yes, and it is very common because the two work as a train. They can go on one agreement or separate ones. Separate agreements give you flexibility to change or refinance one unit independently later, which is often worth having. We will set out both options when we quote.

Is a compact crusher easier to finance than a full size one?

Generally yes, because the ticket is smaller and the buyer pool for compact machines is broader — smaller demolition and groundworks firms can afford them second hand. A full size primary crusher is a bigger commitment and gets underwritten more like a quarry asset than a construction one.

Can I refinance a crusher I own to fund a screener?

Yes, that is a common structure. Releasing capital from a crusher you own outright can provide the contribution or the full cost of a screener. The funder values the crusher, takes title and advances against it. Wear condition and hours determine what is available, so document them properly.
