Skid steer finance
Skid steers are small-ticket plant, which means the decision is usually quick — but the attachment list is often worth more than the machine.

Can you finance a skid steer?
Yes. Skid steers and compact track loaders are funded as hard assets on hire purchase, and because the ticket is comparatively small most funders will make a decision on limited information. New and used both work, and Bobcat in particular has a used market deep enough that funders rarely question the security. The trap is the attachment package. Buyers routinely spend as much on a planer, a sweeper, a breaker and a trencher as they do on the carrier, and those attachments need to be itemised on the same invoice to go on the same agreement. Bought separately later, they are a harder conversation.
Used kit: Yes. Used skid steers are funded routinely, with machines up to around ten years old placeable if hours and condition stack up.

What would a skid steer cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
How lenders treat it
Small-ticket plant like this often goes down a streamlined route, with decisions driven substantially by credit scoring rather than a full manual read of the accounts. That is good news for speed and it means a clean, established limited company can get an answer fast. Bobcat, CAT and JCB skid steers all resell easily and compact track loaders have broadened the buyer pool further. The asset risk that funders watch is theft — compact machines are stolen more often than large plant, so telematics, CESAR marking and a decent insurance policy matter. Attachments on their own start to look like a soft asset because they are harder to identify and recover, which is why bundling them with the carrier at the point of supply is always the cleaner route.

Who buys one
Demolition and soft-strip contractors, shopfitting and internal works firms who need a machine that fits through a doorway, kerbing and surfacing gangs, and equestrian or agricultural buyers doing yard work. The trigger is often access: a job where a mini excavator cannot turn and a wheelbarrow is too slow. Hire companies buy them because the attachment fleet generates more revenue than the carrier does.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Skid steer finance questions
How quickly can skid steer finance be approved?
On small-ticket plant an indicative decision is often available the same working day, because funders use streamlined underwriting at this level. Having the supplier invoice, company details and recent bank statements ready removes most of the delay. Where the applicant is newly formed or has adverse credit, expect a fuller manual review.
Can I finance attachments without the machine?
It is possible but harder. Attachments alone are less identifiable and less easily recovered, so funders treat them closer to a soft asset and may want a stronger covenant or a contribution. Where you are also buying a carrier, putting both on one invoice and one agreement is far simpler.
Is a compact track loader financed differently to a wheeled skid steer?
No, both sit in the same bracket and attract the same treatment. Tracked versions cost more and carry undercarriage wear, which an inspector will look at on a used machine. Their broader capability on soft ground has widened the used buyer pool, so residual values have held up well.
Do I need CESAR marking or a tracker?
Neither is a funding condition in most cases, but both are strongly advisable and some insurers require a tracker on compact plant. Theft rates on small machines are meaningfully higher than on large plant, and a stolen machine still on finance leaves you liable for the agreement if the insurance claim falls short.
Can a new limited company get skid steer finance?
Sometimes, with support. A newly formed company with an experienced director, a personal guarantee and ideally a contribution can be funded on small-ticket plant. A brand new company with no relevant director history is difficult. Where trading history is thin, buying a used machine with a deposit is usually the realistic route.
