Tracked dumper finance
Tracked dumpers go where a wheeled site dumper cannot — soft ground, steep ground and through gateways — and that is exactly why buyers need one.

Can you finance a tracked dumper?
Yes. Tracked dumpers are funded as plant on hire purchase, both new and used, though the ticket is usually modest enough that funders treat the application as small-ticket and move quickly. Everything from a walk-behind tracked barrow up to a ten tonne rubber-tracked machine can be funded. The practical point buyers miss is that the smaller units start to look like soft assets to a funder: a petrol tracked barrow has a limited, informal second-hand market and no meaningful serial number trail in some funders’ systems. Bundling smaller units together with a larger machine on one supplier invoice usually produces a much better outcome than funding one alone.
Used kit: Yes for larger tracked dumpers, typically up to around eight years. Rarely worth funding on very small used tracked barrows, where values are low.

What would a tracked dumper cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. How lenders treat it
Split this asset in two and the funder logic becomes obvious. Large rubber-tracked dumpers of five tonnes and above are proper hard assets with an identifiable serial number, an established dealer network and a real resale market, and they are funded like any other plant. Small tracked barrows and one tonne high-tip units are a different proposition: low value, high volume, sold through general plant dealers and often difficult to trace, which pushes them toward soft asset treatment with a shorter profile and sometimes a contribution. Hire fleets fare well because tracked dumpers hire strongly in winter and utilisation evidence supports the case. Owner-operators buying a single small unit are usually better served by adding it to an existing plant purchase than by applying for it in isolation.

Who buys one
Landscapers and garden construction firms working through domestic gateways, forestry and estate contractors on soft or sloping ground, and groundworks gangs on waterlogged winter sites where wheeled dumpers rut everything they touch. The trigger is typically one job that cannot be done any other way — a back garden with no side access, a riverbank, a forestry track — followed by the realisation the machine will be used constantly.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Tracked dumper finance questions
Can I finance a small tracked barrow on its own?
You can ask, but funders find low-value units awkward in isolation because the second-hand market is informal and recovery is difficult. It is usually far easier to buy one alongside a larger machine on the same invoice, where it becomes part of a properly secured agreement rather than a standalone application.
Are tracked dumpers harder to fund than wheeled ones?
The larger sizes, no. Wheeled site dumpers from Thwaites, Terex and JCB have the deeper market, but a five to ten tonne tracked machine from a recognised manufacturer funds comparably. It is the very small tracked units that are harder, and that is about value and traceability rather than the tracks.
Do rubber tracks affect the value at the end?
They affect it considerably. Track condition is one of the first things an inspector records, and a machine needing a set of tracks is worth noticeably less. Tracks are a consumable, so budget for replacement during ownership rather than treating it as a fault when it comes up.
Can a landscaping business get plant finance?
Yes. Landscapers and garden construction firms are funded regularly for dumpers, minis and compaction kit. Funders look at trading history, seasonality and existing commitments. Because landscaping income can be lumpy, a business with a strong winter order book or maintenance contracts alongside construction work presents more comfortably.
Can several small machines go on one agreement?
Yes, and on low-value plant it is often the best approach. A combined agreement covering a tracked dumper, a compaction plate and a breaker reaches a sensible total, presents to the funder as one identifiable package of kit, and usually attracts better treatment than three separate small applications submitted on their own would.
