Can you finance an interactive whiteboard?
Yes. Interactive panels are among the easier technology assets to place, because they are large, wall-mounted, serial-numbered screens with a genuine second-hand market in the education channel. Agreements are typically lease or hire purchase. Used panels are occasionally funded where refurbished by a recognised supplier. What surprises most applicants is the status of the buyer rather than the asset: maintained schools, academy trusts, independent schools and private training providers are all assessed very differently, and public sector bodies face specific rules on borrowing that must be checked before an application is made.
Used kit: Yes, in limited cases. Refurbished interactive panels circulate through education resellers with warranty, and a limited number of funders will consider them, although remaining touch sensor life and software support are assessed carefully.

What would an interactive whiteboard cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
How lenders treat it
Interactive panels are one of the technology items I can genuinely underwrite on the asset as well as the covenant. They are big, they are fixed to a wall, they carry serial numbers and the education channel actively trades refurbished units. Recovery is realistic, if unglamorous. What I am careful about is who is signing. A private training provider with fluctuating learner numbers is a different proposition to an established independent school with fee income visible in the accounts, and public sector borrowing rules mean some education buyers cannot enter these agreements at all without approval. The installation, wall reinforcement and staff training in the quote carry nothing for me, so I look at the hardware split.

Who buys one
Independent schools, private training providers, apprenticeship centres and corporate learning and development teams, alongside nurseries and tutoring businesses. The usual trigger is a projector estate reaching the end of its life, where replacement lamps and dim images have become a termly complaint. Multi-site training providers standardising equipment across centres are common applicants, as are businesses building internal academies where the room needs to work for both in-person and remote learners.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Interactive whiteboard finance questions
Can a school finance interactive panels?
It depends entirely on the type of school. Independent schools and private training providers can generally enter finance agreements in the normal way. Maintained schools and academy trusts are subject to public sector borrowing rules and usually need specific approval, so that has to be established at the outset rather than discovered mid-application.
Are interactive panels easier to fund than laptops for the same value?
Yes, noticeably. A wall-mounted panel is identifiable, it does not leave the building, and there is an active refurbished market in education. That gives a funder something concrete behind the agreement, whereas a fleet of portable devices offers almost nothing. Expect a wider choice of funders and a smoother process.
Can installation and teacher training be included?
Usually yes, as part of the overall project. Mounting, wall reinforcement, cabling and initial training are standard lines on an education quote. They carry no recovery value, so a proposal dominated by services rather than screens will be assessed mainly against your accounts, but their inclusion is entirely normal.
What happens to the old projectors?
Practically, most are disposed of, since replacement lamps and fading brightness are exactly why they are being retired. If any are still on an existing agreement, that needs resolving before new finance completes. Tell us early, because undisclosed commitments on equipment being replaced are a frequent cause of last-minute delays.
Do we need to roll out every room at once?
No, and phasing by department or building over successive terms is common. Each phase can sit on its own schedule so the commitment tracks the actual deployment. Sharing the full programme with the funder at the outset helps, as subsequent phases are then approved against a plan they already understand.
