Can you finance a voIP and telephony?
Yes, with the honest caveat that a modern phone system is mostly not a physical thing. Handsets and headsets are equipment, but they are low value individually and worth very little second-hand. The platform itself is a subscription, and the setup, number porting and call flow configuration are services. A funder cannot recover any of that, so this is a covenant decision. Used handsets are rarely funded. The wrinkle is that the monthly platform cost usually continues separately with your provider, so finance covers the project, not the ongoing service.
Used kit: Rarely. Refurbished handsets are cheap and readily available, which is precisely why no funder wants to write security against them; where used hardware is funded, the decision rests wholly on the business.

What would a voIP and telephony cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. How lenders treat it
Telephony has quietly become a services deal. A decade ago I would have been funding an on-premise system with real hardware in a cabinet; now I am funding handsets worth little each, a licence per user and a few days of engineer time. There is nothing to collect. That means I underwrite the company — trading history, accounts, bank conduct, and whether the commitment is sensible against turnover. I do look kindly on the driver, because businesses being forced off retiring copper lines are making a necessary change rather than a discretionary one, and necessity tends to correlate with the commitment being honoured. Where the handset count is high I will ask about headcount stability.

Who buys one
Businesses being pushed off analogue and ISDN lines as the copper network is retired, contact centres and service desks needing call recording and queue reporting, and firms with staff split between home and office who have outgrown a system built around a desk. Multi-site operators consolidating several separate phone systems onto one platform are common, as are companies moving premises who see no sense in taking legacy hardware with them.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
VoIP and telephony finance questions
The old copper lines are being switched off. Can finance cover the move?
Yes, and it is one of the most common telephony applications we see. The project cost — handsets, licences, porting numbers, rebuilding call routing — can be funded as one package. Funders understand the deadline is externally imposed, which makes the purpose of the application straightforward to explain.
Can the monthly call plan be included in the agreement?
Generally no. Ongoing service charges are consumed month by month and stay with your telecoms provider. What can be financed is the up-front project: hardware, any licences bought outright, and the professional services to deliver it. Some providers bundle everything into a single monthly contract, which is a different arrangement altogether.
Is it worth financing handsets when they cost so little each?
Individually no, but the total across a whole business is rarely trivial once you add headsets, conference units and setup. The finance conversation makes sense at project level rather than device level. Below a certain total, we will tell you honestly that an unsecured facility is the more practical route.
We want call recording for compliance. Does that change the funding?
Not materially. Call recording is usually a licensed feature of the platform rather than separate hardware, so it forms part of the subscription element. It is worth mentioning in the application because a compliance-driven purchase signals a business responding to regulatory obligation, which underwriters read as a considered decision.
Can we add users later without a new agreement?
Additional handsets and licences are normally handled as a separate schedule. Practically, the bigger consideration is your provider’s terms rather than the finance, since adding users is usually a subscription change. If you expect significant growth, say so at the start so the initial application is framed against a business that is expanding.
