Can you finance a tipper van?

Yes. Tippers are funded as commercial vehicles with the body and tipping gear included, usually on hire purchase. Used tippers are very fundable and there is strong demand for them, which helps the valuation. What catches people out is condition rather than paperwork: a tipper lives a harder life than any other van, and funders look closely at the ram, the subframe and the body floor. The other issue is income. Construction work is often paid under CIS with deductions, and lenders need to see that money arriving through a business account rather than being told about it.

Used kit: Yes. Used tippers are funded constantly, though lenders inspect the body, subframe and hydraulics far more carefully than they would on an equivalent-age panel van.

What would a tipper van cost per month?

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.

Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. How lenders treat it

Tippers place well because the used market for them is genuinely hungry — a funder knows it can sell one. That said, the wear profile changes the underwriting. Lenders look for a tipping body from a recognised converter, a subframe that has not been repeatedly welded, and evidence the hydraulic gear has been serviced. Cage tippers and alloy bodies value better than tired steel. On the applicant side, construction is a sector where sole traders dominate and where lenders have been burned, so they want bank statements showing real turnover, not just invoices. New starts are placeable with a deposit and a homeowner. The common declines: cash income that never touches a bank account, a vehicle bought privately with no invoice, and bodies that have obviously been over-loaded and buckled.

Who buys one

Groundworks contractors, landscapers, fencing and driveway firms, and builders who are tired of hiring a grab lorry for every skip run. Usually a sole trader or small limited company, frequently with a trailer and a mini digger already on finance. The trigger is the season: work picks up in spring, a muck-away job needs shifting, and hiring one in by the week stops looking like a sensible way to run a business.

How it is treated for tax

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.

Tipper van finance questions

Can I finance a tipper as a sole trader in construction?

Yes, this is one of the most common profiles we place. The key is evidencing income — lenders want to see CIS payments or invoices landing in a business bank account. If most of your money is cash, sort that out first, because affordability is judged on what is visible.

What should I check before buying a used tipper?

Lift the body and look at the subframe for cracked or repeatedly welded sections, check the ram for pitting and weeping seals, look at the floor for dents from repeated stone loads, and check the tailgate hinges. A neglected tipping body costs more to fix than most buyers assume.

Is a cage tipper harder to finance?

No, and it is often easier to value because caged tippers are in demand with landscapers and tree surgeons. What matters is that the cage was fitted properly by a converter and that the vehicle is still within its plated weight with the cage on. Overweight conversions cause problems.

Can I finance a tipper for a brand new business?

Often yes, with a deposit and a clean personal credit profile. It helps a great deal to show where the work is coming from — a subcontract arrangement, a signed job, or several years of experience in the trade before going out on your own. Homeowners get a wider panel.

Can the finance cover a tipper and a plant trailer together?

Usually yes, either on one agreement or two running alongside each other. Lenders treat a trailer as a separate identifiable asset, so it needs its own details and often its own valuation. Tell us the full shopping list up front and we will structure it once rather than twice.
