Gas and LPG forklift finance
Cheaper to buy than an electric, cleaner than a diesel indoors, and a popular middle option for sites that run hard through a single shift.

Can you finance a gas and LPG forklift?
Yes. Gas and LPG counterbalance trucks are funded in the same way as any other engine truck, usually on hire purchase or a finance lease. They are typically less expensive than the electric equivalent, which occasionally puts a single small truck under a funder’s minimum advance. The catch nobody mentions is the bottle: the cylinder exchange arrangement is a consumable supply contract with your gas provider, not part of the machine, and it cannot be financed alongside the truck.
Used kit: Yes — used gas trucks fund easily and are often the best-value entry point into ownership, with age limits similar to diesel where hours are sensible.

What would a gas and LPG forklift cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. How lenders treat it
Placed without fuss. Gas trucks share the mechanical DNA of their diesel siblings so the used market and the parts network are both deep, and values behave predictably. Funders tend to like them for exactly that reason. The structural point to watch is ticket size: a single used gas truck can be a modest amount of money, and several funders will not write below their floor, so these are often bundled with racking, a scrubber or a second truck to make a sensible facility. Dual-fuel machines and petrol-to-LPG conversions are fundable but should be described accurately on the invoice, because an aftermarket conversion is treated differently on valuation from a factory-built gas truck.

Who buys one
Print works, packaging plants, cold-adjacent food sites and general manufacturers who need indoor use without the charging downtime an electric fleet demands. The purchase is often triggered by a move to a bigger unit, by running out of charging capacity on an existing electric fleet, or by a seasonal business wanting a truck that can refuel in two minutes and keep going through a peak that lasts weeks rather than hours.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Gas and LPG forklift finance questions
Can the gas bottle contract be included in the finance?
No. Cylinder exchange is an ongoing supply arrangement with a gas company, in the same category as fuel or electricity, and finance agreements fund assets rather than consumables. The bottle holders and any bunded storage cage on site are physical items, but they are low value and generally not worth putting on an agreement by themselves.
The truck is cheap. Is there a minimum amount funders will look at?
Most have a floor, and a single inexpensive used truck can fall below it. That is not the end of the road — it usually means combining the truck with other equipment into one facility, or going to the funders who specialise in smaller-ticket business. Broking the deal is largely about knowing which door to knock on.
Is a petrol truck converted to run on LPG still fundable?
Generally yes, but it should be described as a conversion rather than a factory gas truck. Valuers treat the two differently and a funder who discovers the difference after drawdown is an unhappy funder. A properly certificated conversion by a recognised installer causes far fewer questions than an undocumented one.
Can we run a mixed fleet of gas and electric on one agreement?
Yes, and it is common. A schedule listing each truck by make, model and serial keeps everything under one facility with one payment date, which is much easier to administer than four separate agreements. Trucks can normally be added to the schedule later as the fleet grows.
Does indoor use affect how a funder sees the truck?
Favourably, on the whole. An indoor truck stays dry, corrodes far less and usually presents better at the end of its life than a yard machine of the same age. If your application is light indoor pallet work, say so — it supports the residual value the funder is relying on.
