Yes, but the case behind a farm biomass boiler has changed and it is worth being clear about why you are buying. The subsidy scheme that underpinned a wave of these installations is closed to new applicants, so a boiler now stands or falls on the heating cost it displaces, usually heating oil or LPG, plus the value of timber you already have on the holding. Funders assess it on that saving. The plant itself is installed, plumbed and flued into a building, so on tenanted or mortgaged land the lender will want written acknowledgement that the equipment remains theirs.
Used kit: Rarely; second-hand boilers are occasionally moved but funders value them very cautiously

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Biomass sits apart from the rest of this list because it is bought against an income or saving rather than to do a job in a field. Funders want the heat load quantified: what fuel is being displaced, over how many hours, and what the fuel supply for the boiler actually is. A holding with its own woodland and a chipping arrangement is far more convincing than one intending to buy chip on the open market. The plant is highly installed and resale is limited, so the lending leans on the farm behind it. Expect staged payments to the installer and the agreement starting at commissioning. Accreditation, flue and planning requirements need to be settled before funds are released.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Poultry producers heating broiler or rearing houses, estates and farms with their own woodland heating a farmhouse, cottages and holiday lets from a district system, and growers using boiler heat for crop drying. The decision is usually forced by a fuel bill that has become the second largest cost on the enterprise, or by a standing timber resource that is costing money to manage and producing nothing.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
No. The tariff scheme that drove most farm biomass installations is closed to new applicants, so any project now has to justify itself on displaced fuel cost. That is a real saving where a farm is burning a lot of oil or gas, but it is a different calculation from the one people remember and funders will do it carefully.
It is the first question an underwriter asks. A farm with its own woodland, a chipper and somewhere dry to store chip has a controllable cost. Buying chip on the open market exposes you to a price you do not control, which weakens the case that the boiler is saving money.
Usually yes, where the installer supplies them as part of the project. Chip stores with moving floors, augers, accumulator tanks and buried heat mains are ordinarily funded alongside the boiler. Building work to house the plant is a different matter and generally needs borrowing secured on the farm.
It becomes more involved. A boiler bolted into a building with a flue through the roof is firmly attached to the property, so your landlord will need to acknowledge in writing that it belongs to the funder until settled, and you may also need consent under your tenancy. Start both conversations before ordering.
Yes, and it is one of the stronger cases. Where a producer is on a contract with an integrator, the heating cost is a defined line in the budget and the saving is measurable. Bring the contract and the fuel bills; between them they make the affordability argument far better than a brochure.
