Diagnostic ultrasound moves, holds value and is easy to identify, which puts it among the most fundable assets in private healthcare.

Yes. Diagnostic ultrasound is a favourite asset with funders because it is portable, serial numbered, sold through established dealers and has a deep used market worldwide. Cart systems, laptop-based units, handheld probes and the transducer sets that go with them are all fundable, typically on one schedule. What catches buyers out is the probe list. Probes are a large share of the value and are priced individually, so confirm exactly which transducers are on the quote before applying — approvals are given against a specified schedule, and adding a probe later means a fresh application.
Used kit: Yes — refurbished systems around five to eight years old are readily funded where a recognised dealer supplies them with probes tested and warranted.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Underwriters like the asset and are mostly assessing the borrower. Doctors and consultants are treated as professional covenants, and a clinic owned by registered clinicians will usually reach a healthcare desk that understands the model. CQC registration is the gate: a funder wants to know the service is registered or registering, because an unregistered diagnostic service cannot lawfully trade. Income mix matters too — clinics with NHS subcontract work or insurer-funded caseload read as more predictable than wholly self-pay lists built on marketing spend. Common declines are sole practitioners with no premises and no accounts, applicants buying grey imports with no UK service contract, and sale and leaseback requests on machines bought privately where title cannot be proved.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Private GP and diagnostic clinics adding point-of-care imaging so patients are not sent elsewhere, independent sonographers setting up mobile or clinic-based scanning services, and women’s health and fertility clinics buying systems with specialist probes. Musculoskeletal and sports medicine clinics buying for guided injection work are a growing group, as are private urology and vascular services. Physiotherapy and podiatry clinics buying compact units for diagnostic scanning round out the enquiries.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
You need it before you can lawfully provide the service, and most funders will want to see registration or a live application before releasing funds. An approval can usually be obtained while registration is in progress, but do not expect a lender to pay for a machine that cannot legally be used.
It can be, though it is harder than a clinic-based application. Funders want a trading history, proof of where the machine lives overnight and insurance that covers it in a vehicle. Two or three years of accounts as a sole trader or company makes a large difference to the response.
Not to a live agreement, no. Schedules are fixed at drawdown. A later probe purchase is written as a new facility, which is why it pays to specify the full transducer set on the original quote even if you plan to grow into it. Adding a probe later is perfectly possible; it just means a second agreement rather than an amendment.
Only if there is a UK dealer standing behind it with a warranty and service capability. Funders are wary of imports because a machine nobody will support is unusable and unsaleable. A UK-refurbished unit from a known supplier gets a far easier reception. Ask the dealer to confirm in writing that they will service the machine for the life of the agreement.
Sometimes, where the company has a few years of solid filed accounts and reasonable net assets. Young companies and start-up clinics should expect a personal guarantee to be requested. Appetite varies widely between funders, which is precisely the sort of thing a whole-of-market search exists to find.
