IPL sits at a lower price point than laser, which changes both the funding product and the type of lender likely to write it.

Usually yes, but IPL is a more mixed picture than laser. The systems cost less, which can put them below the minimum many asset funders will write, so they often end up on an unsecured business loan instead of hire purchase. They are also the device most associated with the low end of the market, and some lenders have simply stopped writing IPL for non-clinical operators after poor experience. Lamp life is the practical catch: flashlamps are consumable and need replacing, and that cost sits entirely outside the finance agreement.
Used kit: Yes but cautiously — used IPL is fundable from dealers up to around five years old, though many funders prefer new because lamp hours on a used system are hard to verify.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Two things drive the underwriting. First, ticket size: IPL frequently falls below asset finance minimums, so the sensible route is often a short unsecured facility priced on the business and the director’s credit file rather than the device. Second, sector reputation. Lenders have seen a long tail of IPL machines sold hard into salons that then closed, so non-clinical applicants face more scrutiny, personal guarantees and in some cases a flat no. A clinic owned by a registered clinician with CQC-registered premises clears that hurdle easily. Underwriters also look at whether the brand is supported in the UK, because a machine that cannot get replacement lamps stops earning and becomes worthless. Declines concentrate on start-up salons with no accounts and unbranded imported systems.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Aesthetic clinics and skin clinics adding light-based treatments, beauty and wellness businesses moving up from entry-level devices, and mobile practitioners buying compact systems. We also see clinics replacing a machine whose manufacturer has gone quiet and can no longer supply lamps, which is a surprisingly common reason to buy and a good argument for choosing a supported brand. Multi-room clinics adding a second unit make up the rest.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Because the amount is often too small for an asset funder to justify the work, and because the resale value is modest enough that the machine is not doing much as security anyway. An unsecured facility is typically faster and involves less paperwork, at the cost of being priced on your credit rather than the asset.
Yes, noticeably. A salon is a retail beauty risk and lenders have poor historic experience with devices sold into that market. A CQC-registered clinic owned by a registered clinician is a healthcare risk. Both can be funded, but from different lenders and on different terms.
Not the agreement itself, but they should affect your budgeting. Flashlamps have a finite number of shots and replacing them is a real recurring cost that cannot be capitalised. Funders occasionally ask about it because a machine with no usable lamp generates nothing. Check with the supplier how lamp life is counted and what a replacement involves before you sign anything.
Often yes, with a personal guarantee and a reasonable personal credit file. New businesses are funded every day in this sector. What makes it harder is a combination of no trading history, no relevant qualifications and an unsupported imported machine. Any one of those on its own is usually workable; all three together is not.
Commercially that is your call, but from a funding perspective a larger multi-application platform from a recognised manufacturer is easier to place. It reaches a sensible facility size, holds value better and has a real used market, all of which widen the pool of lenders willing to write it.
