Used van finance is straightforward once you know the rules. The question is rarely whether a used van can be funded — it is whether the van you have found will still qualify at the end of the agreement. That is where most used van applications come unstuck, and it is easily avoided.
Used vans from franchised and independent dealers.
Subject to ownership and finance checks.
Arrange funding before you bid.
Specialist lenders where mileage is high.
Lenders who look past standard age caps.
Used tippers, Lutons and refrigerated vans.
Most lenders do not just look at the age of the van today. They look at how old it will be when the agreement finishes. A five-year-old van on a five-year term is ten at the end, and plenty of lenders will not go there.
That single rule explains most used van finance declines. The fix is usually a shorter term or a different lender, not a different van — but it is far better to know before you commit to the vehicle.
Limits vary by lender. As a rough guide, many will fund used vans up to around ten years old at the end of term, with mileage caps that tighten as age increases. Specialist lenders go further on both, particularly where the van is well documented and the business is strong.
Buying used vans on finance from a dealer is the simplest route. Private sales are fundable but need more care — the lender will want to verify ownership and that there is no outstanding finance on the vehicle. Auction purchases move quickly, so arrange the funding before you bid rather than after.
A used van has a less predictable resale value, so the lender is carrying more risk on the security. That usually shows up as a slightly higher rate or a shorter maximum term. The trade-off is that the purchase price is far lower, so the total cost is often still well below a new equivalent.
Send us the make, model, year, mileage and price before you commit. We will tell you which lenders will fund that specific vehicle and over what term — which is more useful than a general rate quote that may not survive contact with the actual van.
