Can you finance a roll to roll printer?

Yes. Roll-to-roll wide format printers are funded on hire purchase or lease and the printer stands as its own security. Used machines are fundable, but the resale pool is shallower than people expect because so many units come to market at once when a model is superseded. What catches buyers out is that the printer is rarely the whole job: a matching laminator, a take-up system, a cutter and a RIP licence usually arrive on the same quotation, and the software line is soft while the hardware is not.

Used kit: Yes — used roll printers are fundable, typically up to around five years old, with head hours, print metres and a dealer warranty carrying the most weight.

What would a roll to roll printer cost per month?

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.

Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. How lenders treat it

Underwriters treat wide format as a hard asset with a caveat: values slide quickly, and a four year old machine can be worth a fraction of its invoice once a newer model lands. That shapes the term far more than the sector does. Print heads and ink are consumables, never funded. RIP software, colour profiling and training are soft costs which some funders will carry inside a strong overall deal and others will strip out entirely. The machines are wheeled into place rather than bolted down, so fixtures are rarely an issue, which makes tenants straightforward here. Declines are commonest for parallel imports with no UK warranty and for buyers with no signage trading history.

Who buys one

Often a two to eight person sign shop whose outsourced wrap and banner work has grown past the point where paying a trade printer makes sense. Also print shops adding soft signage for exhibition clients, and vehicle wrap specialists who need to control turnaround on bespoke jobs rather than wait in someone else queue.

How it is treated for tax

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.

Roll to roll printer finance questions

Can I fund the printer and the laminator together?

Yes, and it usually makes sense to. Where both appear on one dealer quotation they can sit on a single agreement with one monthly payment, which is tidier than running two. If the laminator is coming from a different supplier we can still package them, it simply means two invoices to the same funder.

Why is the term on wide format often shorter than on other machinery?

Because value falls away faster. A funder sets the term so the agreement never gets ahead of what the machine is worth, and wide format models are replaced frequently. The upside is you reach the end of the agreement around the time you would naturally be thinking about a newer printer anyway.

Is a print and cut machine funded any differently to a printer?

No. An integrated cutter is part of the same unit, on the same invoice and with the same serial number, so it goes on one agreement. It is only when the cutter is a separate standalone table that a funder looks at it as a second asset with its own value.

What happens at the end of a hire purchase agreement?

You take title once the final instalment and the option to purchase fee are paid, and the printer is yours to keep, trade in or sell. On a lease the treatment differs, which is one of the things worth deciding before you sign rather than after.

Can I get finance with a CCJ on the business?

Often yes. A satisfied CCJ with an explanation behind it is not a full stop, and some funders specialise in exactly these cases. What matters is the story, the current trading position and whether the machine has clear work behind it. Tell us up front so we approach the right lenders first.
