Can you finance a UV flatbed printer?

Yes. A UV flatbed is funded as a hard asset on hire purchase or lease, with the printer as the security. Used machines are fundable, though funders look harder at printheads than at the frame, because head condition drives both output quality and resale value. The usual surprise is how much of the total bill is not the printer: extraction, chillers, a roll-to-roll option, vacuum tables, jigs, RIP licences and training can add a meaningful chunk, and several of those lines are soft costs a funder will part fund at best.

Used kit: Yes — used flatbeds fund where head hours and lamp condition are documented, typically up to around six or seven years old with a dealer warranty behind them.

What would a UV flatbed printer cost per month?

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.

Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. How lenders treat it

Flatbeds sit in a smaller resale pool than litho, so underwriters lean on the brand and on whether a UK service network exists. A machine from a manufacturer with engineers in the UK is easier to place than a direct import nobody can support. Printheads, lamps and belts are consumables and are not funded as assets; nor is the ink, however large the opening order. Software licences, colour profiling and installation training are soft. Larger flatbeds bolted to a levelled floor with dedicated three phase and fume extraction start to look installed, so tenancy comes into the conversation. Declines usually involve grey imports or start-ups with no print trading history.

Who buys one

Commonly a sign and display company that has been outsourcing rigid board work for years and finally has the volume to bring it back. Also exhibition and retail POS producers who need overnight turnaround they cannot get from a trade supplier, and engineering or giftware firms printing direct to aluminium, acrylic or ply where screen printing has become uneconomic for short runs.

How it is treated for tax

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.

UV flatbed printer finance questions

Can I put the opening ink order on the finance?

No. Ink is a consumable and it is gone within weeks, so there is nothing for a funder to hold security over. The same applies to lamps, filters and print head cleaning kits. Budget consumables from working capital and keep the finance agreement to the printer and its permanent options.

Does the roll-to-roll attachment go on the same agreement?

Yes, if it is quoted with the machine. Roll options, extended beds, vacuum zones and static bars are all part of the printer for funding purposes. Buying them a year later means a separate agreement, which is why it is usually worth specifying the machine properly at the outset.

What do funders want to see on a second-hand flatbed?

Head hours, lamp or LED hours, a service history and confirmation the seller owns it free of any finance. A dealer refurbishment with new heads and a warranty strengthens the case considerably. A private sale of an unsupported machine is the version underwriters are most cautious about.

Is extraction fundable?

Partly, and it depends on the lender. Ducting fixed into the fabric of the building is a fixture and generally sits outside the agreement, while a free-standing filtration unit with its own value can often be included. Send the full quotation and we will split it before you order.

I have only been trading eighteen months. Is that a problem?

Not automatically. Younger businesses can be funded where the directors have relevant print experience and the numbers support the payment. Expect an underwriter to ask for management accounts and possibly a personal guarantee. The stronger your evidence of committed work for the machine, the easier the case reads.
