Can you finance a screen printing machine?

Yes. An automatic screen printing press is funded as a hard asset on hire purchase, with the press standing as security, and used presses are funded regularly because these machines are built to last and the dealer market is active. What people underestimate is the rest of the package. A press without a conveyor dryer, exposure unit, washout booth and screens is not a working line, and funders will happily fund the machines while treating screens, emulsion, inks and squeegees as consumables you pay for yourself.

Used kit: Yes — used automatics fund well and presses of ten to fifteen years old are routine where the pneumatics and index drive have been maintained.

What would a screen printing machine cost per month?

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.

Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. How lenders treat it

A rotary garment press is solid security: heavy, serialised, slow to depreciate and traded steadily through specialist dealers, so an underwriter can put a number on recovery value with some confidence. The dryer is a second asset in its own right and normally sits on the same agreement. Screens, mesh, emulsion, inks and pallets are consumables and are never funded. Gas fired dryers with fixed flues and extraction ducted through the roof begin to look like part of the building, which is where a landlord waiver can be asked for on a leased unit. Declines are most often about the buyer, not the press: no track record in garment print, or volumes that do not support an automatic.

Who buys one

Usually a garment decorator running a manual carousel who has landed a contract for thousands of pieces and simply cannot hand print it. Also embroidery firms adding print so they can quote whole uniform packages, and workwear suppliers who have been buying printed stock in and want the margin and the control of doing it themselves.

How it is treated for tax

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.

Screen printing machine finance questions

Can the conveyor dryer go on the same agreement as the press?

Yes, and it usually should. A dryer is a distinct asset with its own serial number and resale value, so a funder is comfortable including it. Putting the press, dryer and exposure unit on one quotation gives a single agreement and one monthly payment rather than three.

Are screens and emulsion ever fundable?

No. Screens get reclaimed and eventually scrapped, emulsion has a shelf life and ink is used up on the job. None of it can be recovered or resold, so it falls outside asset finance entirely. Those costs belong in your working capital, not on a finance agreement.

Is a gas dryer harder to fund than an electric one?

Not the dryer itself, but the installation can raise questions. A gas supply, flue and roof penetration are building works rather than machinery, and those elements sit outside the agreement. If you rent the unit, get landlord consent for the flue sorted early because it takes longer than the finance.

I am upgrading from manual. Does no automatic experience count against me?

Not on its own. Underwriters look at your trading history in garment decoration as a whole, and stepping up from manual to automatic is a recognised progression. Evidence of the contract or volume driving the purchase strengthens the case considerably.

Can I part exchange my manual carousel?

Yes, and dealers will usually take one. The part exchange value comes off the invoice before the finance is calculated, which reduces the amount funded. Make sure the trade-in appears on the quotation rather than being settled separately, or the paperwork gets messy.
