Conveyor system finance
Once goods move themselves between pick, pack and despatch, labour stops being the thing that limits how much you can ship.

Can you finance a conveyor system?
Yes. Conveyor installations are funded regularly, usually on a lease or hire purchase covering the whole turnkey project. The asset sits between hard and soft: motors, rollers and controls have real value, but a system designed around one building’s layout is difficult to resell as a whole. Funders therefore look closely at your business as well as the equipment. The practical issue on bigger schemes is payment timing — suppliers want staged payments during a build, and not every funder will release money before commissioning.
Used kit: Yes, occasionally — standard modular conveyor is sometimes funded second-hand, but bespoke installed systems are effectively unfundable used.

What would a conveyor system cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. How lenders treat it
Middle ground, and how it is presented matters. Standard modular roller and belt conveyor from known manufacturers has a genuine second-hand market, because modules can be reconfigured elsewhere. Highly bespoke systems with custom controls, integration into your WMS and building-specific geometry are much harder to move, and funders discount accordingly. Two structural points come up on nearly every project. First, staged payments: a supplier may want money at order, at delivery and at sign-off, and funders differ on whether they will fund in stages or only on completion, so this needs agreeing before the order is placed. Second, software and integration costs within the quote are soft and some funders will strip them out. Getting the quotation broken down properly avoids both problems.

Who buys one
Fulfilment operations, food and drink packers, and returns processing centres where goods currently travel by trolley or hand. The trigger is a throughput ceiling: orders growing faster than the space to add pickers, a despatch bottleneck at trailer loading, or a customer service level that cannot be met when every parcel has to be carried the length of the building.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Conveyor system finance questions
Can finance cover staged payments during installation?
Some funders will and some will only pay on commissioning. It is one of the first things to establish, because a supplier expecting a deposit at order and a payment at delivery will not wait for a funder who pays once. Where staged funding is not available, the alternative is a bridging arrangement or a different funder.
Will the software and integration work be financed?
Often partly. Control software, WMS integration and commissioning engineering are soft costs with no recovery value, and funders vary in how much they will include. A quotation that separates hardware from software and services lets a funder see what it is lending against and usually results in more of the project being covered.
Is a conveyor a fixture like racking?
Less so than racking, because much of it is modular and bolted together rather than anchored, and the motors and controls have real value. But a system laid out for your building is not straightforwardly reusable elsewhere, so funders sit it between a forklift and a mezzanine in terms of security.
How long do these projects take and does that affect funding?
Larger installations can run for months from order to sign-off, which matters because a finance approval has a shelf life and quotations expire. Plan the funding alongside the project timetable rather than after it, and keep the funder updated if the build slips, so the approval can be extended rather than redone.
Can we extend a conveyor later under the same facility?
Usually you would add a supplementary agreement rather than amend the original one. Funders are generally happy to look at an extension supplied by the same integrator, since the equipment is compatible and the installation risk is known. Having funded the original system successfully also tends to make the second conversation a good deal shorter than the first.
