Can you finance a stacker truck?

Yes. Pedestrian stackers sit between a powered pallet truck and a forklift in both price and capability, and funders treat them as proper mobile plant. They are serialised, they hold value reasonably and there is a used trade, so hire purchase or lease both work. Second-hand machines are fundable. What surprises people is how much the type matters to value: a straddle stacker with adjustable legs suits far more sites than a counterbalance stacker, and the wider the potential buyer pool the more comfortable a funder is on residuals.

Used kit: Yes — used stackers are commonly funded, generally to around seven or eight years old, with mast condition mattering as much as the hour meter.

What would a stacker truck cost per month?

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.

Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. How lenders treat it

Easy to place and rarely questioned. Stackers are compact, identifiable and traded by the same dealers who handle pallet trucks and forklifts, so valuation evidence is available. Funders will fund new and used, and the agreements are usually hire purchase because buyers at this end of the market want to own outright. Watch two things. Lift height creeps up the price quickly, and a tall stacker with a triplex mast is a different animal from a two-metre machine, so describe the specification properly. And on used deals, mast wear and battery age together account for most of the difference between a machine worth funding and one that is not. Chargers should be on the invoice.

Who buys one

Small engineering firms, retail stockrooms, breweries and light manufacturers with low eaves height and tight floor space, plus mezzanine operators who need to lift goods to a first-floor level. Purchases are often driven by a move away from ladders and manual lifting after an accident or an insurance inspection, or by a new mezzanine creating storage that nothing on site can currently reach.

How it is treated for tax

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.

Stacker truck finance questions

What is the difference between a straddle stacker and a counterbalance stacker for finance?

Only in resale terms. A straddle model fits the widest range of pallets and sites, so it sells on easily and funders are relaxed. A counterbalance stacker suits sites that cannot use straddle legs, which is a smaller market, so a funder may assume a slightly lower future value when structuring the deal.

Can a stacker be financed alongside a mezzanine floor?

Yes, and it is a sensible pairing. The mezzanine on its own is a weak asset because it becomes part of the building, whereas the stacker is mobile and retains value. Presenting the two together gives a funder a mixed package that is easier to approve than the floor by itself.

Are lithium battery stackers available on finance?

Yes. Lithium models are now mainstream at this size and are funded like any other. The opportunity charging that lithium allows suits multi-shift sites, and the longer cell life supports the residual. As with any newer technology, funders are marginally more cautious on the less established brands.

Do I need to provide a quote or an invoice to get started?

A supplier quotation is enough to begin. It needs to show the make, model, specification and the total price including any charger and delivery. The formal invoice follows once the agreement is signed, and that is the document a funder pays against, so the details need to match the quote.

How long does approval normally take on a machine like this?

For a straightforward trading business it is often same day or next day, because the amounts are modest and the asset is well understood. Longer delays usually come from missing information rather than funder hesitation — an incomplete quote, an unclear supplier or accounts that are overdue at Companies House.
