Compact and utility tractors for equestrian yards, smallholdings, estates and groundcare — usually with a loader on the front.

Yes, but the use matters more than the machine. A compact tractor bought by a working farm is straightforward agricultural kit. The same tractor bought for an equestrian yard, a smallholding, a school or a large private garden is not agricultural at all in a lender’s eyes, and an application routed to an agricultural funder will fail on the category rather than on the credit. Placed with a lender that funds groundcare and amenity machinery, it is routine, new or used.
Used kit: Yes, routinely to around ten years old

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
A compact tractor is easy to fund and easy to place badly. Agricultural lenders want to see a farming enterprise behind the application, and an equestrian yard or a grounds contractor is not one, so an obvious lender can decline a perfectly good deal on category grounds. The machine itself is straightforward: a deep used market, strong residuals and terms to five years with little or no deposit.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Livery yards, smallholdings, estates and contractors who need a machine for muck, feed, topping and general yard work rather than field-scale farming. The buyer is often a limited company that is not a farm, which is where placing it gets interesting.

Read the case study →Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Yes. Equestrian yards, estates, grounds contractors and smallholdings all fund tractors. The application needs to go to a lender that funds the asset rather than one that funds farms, which is the usual reason a straightforward deal gets declined.
Yes, to around ten years old as a rule. Hours, condition and service history carry more weight than the year, and the used market for mainstream makes is deep enough that lenders are comfortable.
Often not. Nil-deposit agreements are common on mainstream machines. A deposit is more likely on a newer business or an unusual specification.
Usually one to two weeks from enquiry to the dealer being paid. The case study below took eleven days.
