Yes. Trailers are simple to fund on hire purchase and hold value better than almost anything else on a farm, because a well-built trailer with sound brakes and a straight chassis has a working life measured in decades. Used is routine. The practical issue is deal size: a single trailer can fall below the minimum a funder will write, so trailers are frequently funded in pairs or bundled with the tractor or harvest machine bought at the same time. Make sure the invoice specifies brakes, lighting and plating, because a trailer that cannot legally go on the road is worth less.
Used kit: Yes, including trailers many years old where the chassis and brakes are sound

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Trailers are the least troublesome asset an agricultural funder handles. Depreciation is slow, the secondhand market is national, and buyers exist in every county, so recovery values are dependable. Because of that, funders will happily go back a long way on age. What they check is chassis and body condition, whether the braking system is commercial specification and correctly plated, and the make: the established British and Irish trailer builders sell on far more readily than unbranded imports. The realistic constraint is value. Many funders will not write an agreement for one mid-size trailer alone, so the answer is usually to fund two together, or to add the trailer to the invoice for the tractor or harvester it will run behind.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Arable farms carting grain from combine to store, dairy and beef units drawing silage, root growers moving potatoes and beet, and contractors adding capacity so the harvester never sits waiting. The trigger is usually a bottleneck at harvest where the machine stopped for want of a trailer, a move to a bigger combine that fills a trailer faster, or an old trailer failing on brakes when the farm finally looked at it properly.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Sometimes, but often it falls below a funder minimum. The usual routes are to fund two trailers on one invoice, or to add the trailer to the invoice for the tractor or combine you are buying at the same time. Either way it becomes one straightforward agreement rather than an awkward small one.
Considerably older than most farm machinery. Trailers depreciate slowly and sell easily, so a funder will take a view on a machine that has already had a long life, provided the chassis is straight, the body is sound and the brakes are serviceable. Rot in the floor or a bent chassis is what stops it.
Indirectly but genuinely. A trailer that is properly braked and plated for road use can be sold to anybody; one that is not has a restricted market and therefore a lower recovery value. It also matters to you, because roadworthiness is where enforcement attention has been focused in recent years.
Yes, with approval arranged in advance. Dispersal sales want settlement quickly and will not hold a lot while underwriting runs. Tell us the sale date and what you intend to bid on, and funds can be available on the day. Buying first and seeking finance afterwards is much harder.
Broadly yes, though they sit at a higher value and are bought by a narrower group, mainly larger arable farms and harvest contractors. That means slightly closer underwriting of the business, but the asset itself is regarded as good security and the higher value avoids any minimum deal size problem.
