Yes. Hedge cutters fund on hire purchase and used machines are well supported because the secondhand market extends beyond farming into councils, verge contractors and estate work. The practical point is that a mounted hedge cutter can be a small enough purchase to sit below some funder minimums, so it is frequently funded with the tractor it mounts on or with other kit on the same invoice. Be aware that hedge cutting is restricted at certain times of year under cross compliance and wildlife rules, so the machine earns in a defined season, which is worth reflecting in how the repayments are shaped.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Hedge cutters straddle agriculture and groundscare, which widens the resale market and makes funders relatively relaxed. The reach arm is what gets looked at: bent arms, worn pivot pins and leaking rams are expensive and immediately visible in a valuation. Flail and saw heads are checked separately because heads are often replaced during the working life of a machine. Established UK manufacturers resell far more readily than imports with no parts backup. Because cutting is legally restricted to part of the year, contractors can sometimes obtain repayments weighted to the autumn and winter months when the invoicing happens, although at this value many funders simply take a level profile. Small standalone deals are the practical limitation rather than any doubt about the asset.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Farms cutting their own hedges rather than waiting on a contractor in a crowded autumn, contractors cutting for farms, councils and highways, and estates maintaining rides, verges and drainage banks. The trigger is often a contractor unable to get round everybody in the permitted window, a hedgerow management requirement under an environmental scheme, or an old machine whose arm rams and hoses fail repeatedly during the only weeks it is allowed to work.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Yes, but check the value first. A mounted hedge cutter alone can fall below the minimum some funders will write. If you are buying a tractor at the same time, putting both on one invoice is far simpler. Larger contractor-specification machines usually have enough value to stand on their own.
The arm above all. They want to know it is straight, that the pivot pins are not worn out and that the rams are not weeping. After that, the head condition, the hydraulic system and whether the machine has been on stone-strewn verges all its life. A straight, dealer-serviced machine is an easy approval.
Sometimes. Hedge cutting is legally restricted to part of the year, so the income is concentrated, and some agricultural funders will weight repayments towards those months. At the values involved many contractors simply take a level profile because the difference is small and it keeps the paperwork simple.
It is possible but usually too small to be worth a finance agreement on its own. If you are replacing a head at the same time as buying another machine, include it on that invoice. Otherwise most farms treat a replacement head as a repair cost rather than a capital purchase.
That depends on your hedge mileage and how badly the contractor timing has let you down. Many farms justify it on control of timing rather than cost alone, and some recover part of it by cutting for neighbours. Funders are content either way as long as the farm accounts carry the payment.
