Fund a mulching head for an excavator, skid steer or tractor, whether you are adding a capability or replacing a worn rotor unit.

Yes, though as an attachment it is assessed more tightly than a complete machine. A mulching head is hard, branded and serial-numbered, but its value depends entirely on there being a buyer with a matching carrier and hydraulic flow, so funders look for you to own a suitable machine already. Owning the excavator outright is the single thing that most improves the case. Used heads are fundable and often good value, but the wear point is the rotor and teeth rather than hours. The common error is ordering a head that needs more hydraulic flow than the carrier produces, which turns into a dispute at delivery.
Used kit: Yes — used heads fund well, with rotor and tooth condition and continued manufacturer support mattering more than age.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Attachment lending is where funders get careful. The head is genuine hard security but only resaleable to someone running the right size of carrier, so the market is thin and slow. That pushes the assessment back onto the applicant and the carrier. Expect to be asked what the head is going on, whether you own it, and whether it is itself on finance. A business with an owned excavator and clearance work in hand is an easy case. A business buying a head with no carrier, or with a hired one, will struggle across most of the panel. Private sales of heads are common, particularly ex-contract units, and those need an invoice, serial number and proof of clear title. Watch the flow specification, because a mismatch will hold up the invoice and the drawdown.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Excavator operators taking on vegetation clearance alongside groundworks, and arb contractors who already own a tracked machine and want to stop hiring a mulcher in. The trigger is typically a repeat client asking for scrub or hedge line clearance that the existing bucket work cannot cover. Farmers with a loader or excavator buy them for hedgerow and scrub management on their own land.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
It is very difficult. Funders want the attachment to have a carrier for the life of the agreement, and a head with nothing to mount on has no earning route. Owning the machine, even an older one, transforms the application. If you are buying both, invoice them together and the case becomes much simpler.
Not the credit decision, but it affects whether the deal completes. If the head needs more flow than your machine delivers, it either will not work or will need a carrier modification, and the invoice cannot be signed off until that is resolved. Get the supplier to confirm flow and pressure compatibility in writing before ordering.
In resale terms, yes, because they suit different ground and different buyers. Funders do not usually make a formal distinction in the credit decision, but a valuer will price the two differently on a used machine. What matters more for the application is the brand and the condition of the rotor.
Possibly, though attachments are less attractive for refinance than complete machines because of the thin resale market. It is more common and more successful to refinance the carrier and the head together. Bring the original invoices and serial numbers, and expect a conservative valuation on the attachment.
It depends on volume. A head on an owned excavator is cheaper to acquire and works well if clearance is part of a mixed workload. A dedicated tracked mulcher is faster and more productive if clearance is the business. Funders find the dedicated machine easier to secure, so heavy users often end up there anyway.
