Fund a forestry trailer and loading crane as one outfit, whether it is going behind your own tractor or bought alongside one.

Yes. A timber trailer with a mounted crane is funded as a single hard asset, and it is one of the most straightforward purchases in forestry to place. The combination has a serial number, a known manufacturer and strong resale into farming as well as forestry, which gives funders an easy exit. Most trailers are bought new through a dealer, which keeps the paperwork simple. Where it gets awkward is a bare trailer bought from one seller and a crane from another: funders want to fund a machine, not a kit of parts, so ask the supplier to invoice the assembled outfit as one item.
Used kit: Yes — used trailers and cranes fund well, and a sound outfit over ten years old is still placeable if the crane has no play and the chassis is straight.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Funders like these. The outfit is hard, branded and recoverable, and the agricultural resale market means a repossessed trailer and crane sells quickly, so the panel is broad and includes agricultural funders as well as general asset lenders. Where the buyer is a farming business, accounts and land holdings do most of the work. Where the buyer is an arb or firewood operation, funders look harder at income because the asset is being bought on the back of retail sales that can move with the weather. Private sales are common in this market because good trailers are handed on between farms, and the usual conditions apply: invoice, serial number, proof of clear title and confirmation the seller is who they say they are. Declines tend to follow unregistered sellers and cash-price purchases with no documentation.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Farmers and estate managers pulling their own thinnings and firewood, and small forestry contractors who need extraction capacity without the cost of a forwarder. The trigger is usually a winter of timber sitting at the stump because the tractor and a chain will not shift it fast enough. Firewood producers buy them to feed a processor, which changes the case because the income is retail rather than contract.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
You can, but it is cleaner not to. Funders prefer a single invoice for a complete outfit because that is what they would recover and sell. If the crane is being retro-fitted to a trailer you already own, it is treated as an attachment purchase, which narrows the panel and usually shortens the view the funder takes on it.
It usually helps. Agricultural funders have a long-standing appetite for timber trailers because they sell easily into the farming market, and a farming business with land and accounts behind it is a comfortable case. The trailer being used for your own woodland rather than contract work is not a problem.
Frequently yes, though the seller has to be verifiable. Expect to supply a written invoice with the seller name and address, the trailer and crane serial numbers, and confirmation there is no outstanding finance. Where the seller is a business, that is simple. Where it is a private individual selling for cash, some funders step away entirely.
No. The trailer can be funded on its own against a tractor you already run. If you are buying both together, many people put them on one agreement for simplicity, but it is not required. Funding them separately can even widen the options, since agricultural funders often price tractors more keenly than attachments.
Not materially. A hydraulic drive axle adds cost and capability on soft ground, and funders value the outfit on what it would fetch second-hand, where drive axles hold up well. The asset class, security position and documentation requirements are exactly the same as for a standard trailer.
