Fund a lorry-mounted timber crane for loading roundwood, arisings and logs, whether it is going on a new chassis or an existing truck.
Whole-of-market — 60+ lenders searched, including
Yes, and the decision largely turns on what the crane is being mounted on. A timber crane supplied and fitted to a new or used lorry by one supplier is funded as part of the complete vehicle, which is the simplest route by some distance. A crane being retro-fitted to a lorry you already own is funded as an attachment, so funders will want evidence you own the vehicle and that the chassis is rated to carry the crane. Used cranes are fundable, with slew ring wear, ram condition and the state of the hydraulics carrying the valuation.
Used kit: Yes — used timber cranes are funded regularly, with slew ring and ram condition rather than age determining how they are valued.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Where the crane goes on a chassis as part of a complete vehicle, commercial vehicle funders handle it and the case is straightforward, with the V5 and the vehicle registration providing the identity and title evidence funders like. Where it is retro-fitted, the picture changes: it becomes attachment lending, the resale pool narrows to buyers with a suitable lorry, and the funder will ask to see ownership of the chassis. Cranes hold value reasonably well and export, which helps. Expect questions on payload, plating and whether the fitted weight leaves the vehicle usable. The classic problem is a crane bought from one seller and fitted by another, leaving the fitting labour outside the agreement. Declines follow unclear vehicle title and applicants whose turnover does not support the combined vehicle and crane commitment.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Timber hauliers replacing a tired crane, and arb firms moving into log haulage or roundwood delivery who need to load without a telehandler on site. The trigger is usually a customer who cannot load you, or a firewood operation collecting its own timber rather than paying for delivered loads. Forestry contractors fit them to flatbeds to move their own timber from roadside stacks.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Yes, but it is assessed as an attachment. The funder will want proof you own the lorry outright, the registration details, and confirmation the chassis is suitable and can be plated for the fitted weight. It is a narrower panel than funding a complete vehicle, so allow a little more time for it.
Only if it appears on the supply invoice. A crane supplied and fitted by the same firm, invoiced as one job, is funded complete. Buying the crane from one seller and paying a separate engineer to fit it usually leaves the labour outside the agreement, so agree a single supply-and-fit invoice where you can.
Yes, significantly, and it is worth modelling before you commit. A crane can take a substantial slice out of your available payload and may require re-plating. That is a vehicle engineering question rather than a finance one, but a truck that can no longer carry a viable load is a very expensive mistake.
Broadly yes, though timber cranes with grapples have a slightly narrower buyer pool than general-purpose brick or block loaders. Funders value on brand, reach, lift capacity and condition. The forestry specification does not create a problem; it simply means the valuer prices it against the timber market.
You can, but it is rarely worth splitting them. A grapple on its own is a low-value attachment that many funders will not write in isolation. Where you are replacing a worn grapple on an existing crane, it is often simpler to buy it outright or fold it into a larger machine purchase.
