Yes. An edger is funded as fixed machinery, which is a slightly different category from mobile plant but a perfectly normal one for asset funders. It is serial-numbered and sells second-hand into the small sawmill and joinery market, so there is a recognisable value. Used machines fund well because they are built to last. The detail that needs handling early is installation: an edger that is bolted down, wired in by an electrician and fed by a conveyor may need a three-phase supply, and funders will want the machine invoiced complete rather than the installation appearing as a separate trade bill afterwards.
Used kit: Yes — used edgers and resaws are funded regularly, and a well-maintained machine decades old can still be placed if it is a recognised make.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Fixed machinery is well within normal asset finance territory but it is assessed differently to mobile plant. Once bolted down and wired in, a machine is harder and costlier to recover, so funders take a slightly more conservative view and weigh the borrower more heavily. They will ask whether you own or lease the premises, because a landlord can complicate removal, and a long lease reads better than a short one. Resale for edgers and resaws is steady if unspectacular, with demand from small mills and joinery businesses. Installation, wiring and three-phase supply work are generally not fundable unless the supplier invoices them with the machine. Private and ex-workshop sales are common when mills close down, and need the usual invoice, serial number and title evidence. Declines follow short leases, weak accounts and installation costs left unfunded.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Small sawmills that have outgrown squaring boards on the mill bed, and estate and firewood businesses that have added milling and now need to produce a saleable, consistent product. The trigger is typically a customer wanting dimensioned stock rather than through-and-through boards — a fencing supplier, a joinery shop or a timber frame builder who needs tolerances the mill alone cannot hold.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
A little. Once a machine is bolted down and wired in, recovering it costs the funder time and money, so they take a more cautious view and look harder at your business. It is still standard asset finance. Owning your premises, or holding a long lease, removes most of the friction.
Only if the supplier invoices it with the machine. A separate bill from an electrician for a three-phase supply or a new distribution board is building work in a funder view, not an asset. Ask the machinery supplier whether they can quote supply and commissioning as one line.
It matters enough to be asked about. Funders want to know the machine will stay accessible for the length of the agreement, and a short or rolling lease raises questions about what happens if you move. A landlord waiver is sometimes requested on larger installations. A long lease usually settles it.
Yes, and buying the line together from one supplier on one invoice is the cleanest route. It gives the funder a substantial installation to secure and keeps you on a single agreement. If the mill is already owned outright, it can also be refinanced to help fund the edger.
They can be, provided the sale is documented. You need an invoice from the seller or the administrator, the machine serial number and confirmation there is no outstanding finance against it. Machines sold out of insolvency need particular care with title, so speak to a broker before committing funds.
