Drilling is the quiet bottleneck in cabinet production, and a through-feed boring machine removes it without the cost of a full machining centre.

Yes. CNC boring machines and dowel inserters are funded as hard assets on hire purchase or finance lease, and the recognised makes — Homag Drillteq, SCM Morbidelli Author, Vitap, Biesse Skipper and Gannomat — are familiar to funders. Used machines fund where the control is still supported. What surprises buyers is the cost outside the machine: a boring machine is only useful if the drill data comes out of your cabinet software correctly, so the post-processor and integration work is real money. Funders will not advance much against integration labour, so budget it separately.
Used kit: Yes, where the drill heads are sound and the control is still supported

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. Boring machines sit in a comfortable middle ground for underwriters. They are substantial, serial-numbered and manufactured by firms with a UK service presence, so there is a resale route, but they are not as universally sought after as a panel saw, which makes funders slightly more careful about condition and controller support. Ticket sizes generally clear the minimums easily without triggering the full-underwriting threshold, so cases often go through on accounts and a guarantee rather than a forensic review. Problems arise where a quote bundles software licences, integration consultancy and training into a single figure. None of those can be repossessed. Ask the supplier to itemise the machine, and the rest becomes a smaller question rather than the whole question.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Cabinet and kitchen manufacturers already sizing and banding in house who are still drilling shelf holes and hinge plates on a multi-bore or by jig. The tipping point is usually a batch size or an error rate — misplaced holes on a finished carcase are scrap, not rework. Shops that have not justified a full machining centre buy a boring machine because it fixes the specific problem at a fraction of the outlay.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Often yes, and plenty of shops run both. A nester drills the face but vertical edge boring is slow on a flatbed, and a dedicated borer takes that work off the expensive machine entirely. If your nester is the bottleneck, a borer is usually the cheaper fix. Both can be funded on one agreement if you are buying together.
Only to a limited extent. Post-processors, licences and the consultant days needed to connect your cabinet software to the machine are services, and they leave nothing behind for a funder. Some will include a modest amount within a turnkey machine invoice. Anything substantial is better planned as a cash cost from the outset.
Not if the drill heads and the control have been looked after. Gearboxes and spindle blocks are the wear items and a rebuilt head set is a good sign. The more important check is whether the manufacturer still supplies parts for that control generation, because an unsupported machine is difficult both for you and for any funder valuing it.
Yes, where they are part of the same machine or ordered together. Glue applicators and dowel magazines are integral to the machine function and fund with it. The glue and the dowels themselves are consumables and get excluded, which is only ever a minor point on the invoice.
Typically a cabinet shop past the point where one person drilling panels can keep up, but not yet at the volume that justifies a full processing line. Funders see plenty of these applications from established firms making a targeted investment, which is a story underwriters like because the payback is easy to explain.
