The spindle moulder is where a bench joinery shop makes its money on mouldings, sash sections and profiled work, and it funds as a straightforward capital machine.

Yes. A spindle moulder is funded as a hard asset on hire purchase or lease, and it is one of the more forgiving machines to place because cast-iron moulders hold value for decades. Used machines from SCM, Felder, Sedgwick and Wadkin are routinely funded into their second and third ownership. What catches buyers out is the tooling. Cutter blocks, a power feed unit and a set of profile knives can approach a meaningful share of the machine cost, and a funder will not advance against knives bought on a separate order. Put the feed unit and blocks on the machine invoice from the start.
Used kit: Yes, routinely — cast-iron moulders are funded well into their second and third owner

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
These are modest tickets on a mechanically simple, very durable asset, so they sit in the quick-decision part of the market rather than needing full underwriting. Cast-iron moulders from the recognised makes are genuinely liquid second hand, which means funders are relaxed about age in a way they never are with electronics-heavy equipment. Deals go wrong on the borrower side: limited companies under two years old, unexplained adverse credit, or a director who is not a homeowner and has no other asset backing. A private purchase from a retiring joiner is common and workable, but the funder will want a proper invoice, title confirmation and usually photographs of the serial plate. Tooling-only finance is not a thing.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Bench joinery, staircase and heritage window makers producing their own sections rather than buying moulded stock. The trigger is usually a conservation or sash window contract that demands a profile no supplier stocks, or the realisation that bought-in mouldings are eating the margin on every job. Small shops also buy a moulder when the router table can no longer hold tolerance on long runs.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Yes, as long as it is on the same invoice. A Maggi or Steff feed unit is part of the working machine and funds naturally alongside it. Bought separately a few weeks later it becomes a small standalone purchase that no funder wants to write an agreement for. Specify the feed, the guard and the blocks in one quote.
Yes. British cast-iron machines are still in daily use and still sell, so funders are comfortable with them despite the age. They will want an invoice from the seller, confirmation of clear title and a look at photographs. A machine that has been rebuilt with new bearings and a current guard specification is easier to place than one sold as seen from a yard.
Blocks yes, knives usually only as the set supplied with the machine. A Whitehill or similar block is durable tooling with resale value and sits comfortably on the invoice. A large stock of profile knives is closer to a consumable and gets stripped out. If you need a substantial tooling package, tell us and we will structure it with the machine rather than after it.
Not for the finance itself, but you need them for your own compliance. Spindle moulders carry real risk and HSE expects documented training and guarding. Funders do not ask for it, insurers sometimes do. If training is being supplied by the dealer, include it in the quote so it is covered by the agreement.
Most joinery shops take hire purchase because a moulder will still be working in twenty years and they want to own it. Lease makes more sense where cash flow matters more than ownership, or where the VAT position favours spreading it. Given how long these machines last, ownership at the end of the agreement is usually worth having.
