A van finance calculator estimates your monthly repayment from three things: the amount you are funding, the term in months, and the interest rate. Enter those below and you get an indicative figure on a hire purchase basis. It is an illustration, not a quote — your actual rate depends on the van, the deposit and your business.

What you can fund

Hire purchase

The basis the calculator illustrates.

Finance lease

Lower monthlies, VAT spread across rentals.

Balloon payments

Reduce monthly cost with a final payment.

Deposit options

See how a larger deposit changes the figure.

Terms 12-60 months

Longer terms lower the monthly cost.

Seasonal profiles

Repayments weighted to when you earn.

How to use the van finance calculator

Set the amount you need to fund and the term you have in mind, and the calculator shows an approximate monthly figure on a hire purchase basis at a representative rate. Adjust the term to see how it moves: a longer term lowers the monthly payment but increases the total you repay.

What the numbers actually look like

To make that concrete, here is the same £20,000 van funded four ways, all on hire purchase at a representative 8.9% APR. These are illustrations to show how the levers move, not offers of finance.

  • £20,000 over 36 months — around £632 a month, roughly £22,750 repaid in total.
  • £20,000 over 48 months — around £493 a month, roughly £23,690 in total.
  • £20,000 over 60 months — around £411 a month, roughly £24,650 in total.
  • £20,000 with a £2,000 deposit over 48 months — around £444 a month, roughly £21,320 in total.

Two things stand out. Stretching from three years to five drops the monthly cost by £221 but adds close to £1,900 to what you repay. And a deposit of just ten per cent takes almost £50 a month off. Cheaper monthly and cheaper overall are rarely the same choice.

Business and limited company van finance

Most people using a business van finance calculator are funding through a company rather than personally, and that changes more than the paperwork. A limited company van finance calculator gives the same monthly arithmetic, but the VAT and tax treatment sit differently: commercial vehicles generally qualify for capital allowances as plant and machinery, and on hire purchase you can claim on the full capital cost once the van is in use even though you are paying monthly. Our Annual Investment Allowance page covers that properly.

If you are a sole trader or newly self-employed, the calculator works the same way — what changes is which lenders will look at you, not the maths. See self-employed van finance.

Used vans, leases and other agreement types

A used van finance calculator uses identical arithmetic to a new one. What differs is the term a lender will grant: older vans usually mean shorter terms, because the funder wants the agreement to end while the van still has value. Expect the same monthly figure to be spread over fewer months on an older vehicle. See used van finance for the age and mileage rules.

The calculator below illustrates hire purchase, where you own the van at the end. A van finance lease calculator would show lower monthly payments for the same vehicle, because a lease funds the depreciation rather than the full value — but you do not end up owning it. PCP works similarly, deferring a large final payment. Our finance lease vs hire purchase page sets out which suits what.

Looking for a camper van finance calculator? The arithmetic is the same, but conversions and motorhomes are funded on a different panel — see motorhome and campervan finance.

What the calculator cannot tell you

It cannot tell you your rate. Van finance is priced on the vehicle, the term, the deposit and the strength of the business — and rates vary considerably between the 60+ lenders on our panel for exactly the same van. A calculator has to assume one rate for everyone, which is why it is a guide rather than a quote.

What actually moves your monthly payment

  • Deposit — more down reduces both the monthly figure and the lender’s risk, which can improve the rate too.
  • Term — longer lowers the monthly cost and raises the total repayable.
  • Balloon payment — deferring part of the cost to the end reduces monthlies significantly, but it still has to be paid.
  • Agreement type — a finance lease funds depreciation rather than full value, so payments are lower than hire purchase.
  • The van itself — it is the security, so a vehicle with a solid resale market helps.

From estimate to actual figure

Once you have a rough number, send us the van you are looking at and your deposit. We will come back with what is realistically available across the panel — and if the answer is worse than the calculator suggested, we will tell you why rather than leaving you to find out at signing.

Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a representative 8.9% APR, you would repay around £617 a month; total amount repayable approximately £29,610. Frequently asked questions

How accurate is a van finance calculator?
It is a guide, not a quote. The calculator assumes one representative rate, but your actual rate depends on the van, term, deposit and your business, and varies between lenders for the same vehicle.
How much is a van on finance per month?
It depends on the price, deposit, term and agreement type. Use the calculator for a guide, then tell us the specific van and we will give you a realistic indication.
Does a longer term make van finance cheaper?
It lowers the monthly payment but increases the total amount repayable. Cheaper each month is not the same as cheaper overall.
Will using the calculator affect my credit score?
No. The calculator is purely an illustration and involves no credit check. Nothing is recorded against you for using it, or for making an initial enquiry.
What deposit do I need for a van?
It varies. A larger deposit lowers the monthly cost and reduces the lender’s exposure, which can widen the options available and sometimes improve the rate. On a £20,000 van, a £2,000 deposit takes roughly £50 a month off a 48-month agreement at a representative 8.9% APR.
Can I use a van finance calculator for a business or limited company purchase?
Yes — the monthly arithmetic is identical whether you buy personally or through a limited company. What changes is the tax treatment and which lenders will consider you. Commercial vehicles generally qualify for capital allowances, and on hire purchase you can claim on the full capital cost once the van is in use, even while paying monthly.
Is the calculation different for a used van?
The maths is the same, but the term available usually is not. Lenders tend to grant shorter terms on older vans so the agreement ends while the vehicle still holds value, which pushes the monthly figure up even where the amount borrowed is the same.
Can I get van finance with bad credit?
Often yes, though it is priced differently rather than simply approved or declined. We look at the whole picture across a panel of 60+ lenders, including adverse credit specialists. A calculator cannot price that — it assumes one representative rate for everyone.
Do you cover my area?
Yes — CW Asset Finance is based in Tadcaster and works with clients Leeds, York, Harrogate, Wakefield, Selby, Tadcaster & across North & West Yorkshire, as well as nationwide.
