A salamander is too small to be worth an agreement on its own, and too useful to leave off the order when the rest of the kitchen is being funded.

Yes, but almost never on its own. A salamander grill is a low-value item that sits below the minimum facility most funders will write, so it is funded as a line on a wider kitchen schedule alongside the range, refrigeration or dishwash. Used units are fundable within such a package. The thing to know is that trying to fund a salamander in isolation usually gets a polite decline — not because the asset is unacceptable, but because the cost of underwriting and documenting the deal outweighs the value being advanced.
Used kit: Yes within a package, though the values involved are small enough that most operators simply buy used salamanders outright rather than putting them on an agreement.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Underwriters classify a salamander as light catering equipment. It is branded and serial numbered but cheap, easy to replace and worth very little used once collection is paid for, so it carries almost no security value on its own. In a wider kitchen facility that hardly matters, because the funder is looking at the whole schedule and the stronger assets in it. The general hospitality position applies: the credit decision follows the trading business, filed accounts, bank conduct and time at the site, and new-start venues struggle without a personal guarantee. If a salamander really is all you need, a small unsecured business loan is often a faster and more realistic route than an asset agreement.

Restaurant kitchens finishing gratins, glazing and toasting to order, hotel breakfast operations, and pubs where the salamander does the cheese on everything. It is typically bought as part of a refit rather than alone. The other buyer is a site that has changed its menu and suddenly needs overhead heat it never had, or one where the existing rise-and-fall grill has seized and cannot be repaired economically.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Because the work is the same whatever the amount. Credit search, underwriting, documentation, payout and account administration all cost the funder a fixed sum, so below a certain figure the deal loses money before it starts. It is not a judgement on your business or on the grill. Add it to a larger order and the problem disappears.
Yes, and that is exactly the right approach, as long as you say so before the documents are drawn. Once a schedule has been issued and signed it describes specific assets, so adding an item afterwards means a variation or a second agreement. Not materially. Rise-and-fall units from Falcon or Blue Seal are more expensive and more robust than a fixed countertop grill, which helps a little, but they are still small relative to a typical facility. They are funded on the same basis: inside a broader cookline schedule rather than as a standalone agreement.
Often, yes. For a handful of low-value items — a salamander, a microwave, a couple of prep tables — an unsecured business loan is usually quicker to arrange and avoids the minimum-ticket problem entirely. As a broker we look at both routes rather than forcing every purchase down the asset finance path.
Not in principle. Funders accept used catering equipment from trade dealers routinely. What changes with a used salamander is that the figure involved becomes even smaller, which makes the minimum-facility issue sharper. It is normally simplest to buy the used grill outright and fund the bigger items properly.
