Vacuum packer finance

A chamber vacuum packer extends shelf life, cuts waste and makes sous vide possible, which is a lot of return from one stainless box on a bench.

Can you finance a vacuum packer?

Yes. Commercial vacuum packers are funded as equipment on hire purchase or lease, and chamber machines from Henkelman, Multivac or Sammic are well regarded by funders because they hold value and sell readily second-hand. Used machines are fundable from dealers. The practical point is size: a small countertop chamber machine may fall below a funder’s minimum and is better placed on a wider kitchen schedule, whereas a double chamber or a thermoforming machine for a production kitchen clears the threshold comfortably on its own.

Used kit: Yes. Reconditioned chamber machines fund well where the pump has been serviced and the seal bar and lid are sound, because a worn pump is the main hidden cost in a used machine.

What would a vacuum packer cost per month?

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.

Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. How lenders treat it

Vacuum packers are one of the better small assets in a kitchen. They are branded, serial numbered, mechanically simple, and there is a real trade in used Henkelman and Sammic machines, so a funder can see a recovery route. That distinguishes them from the soft items around them. Sector caution still applies: hospitality and small food production are underwritten on accounts, trading period and bank conduct, and a start-up will be assessed on the director. Where a food business is scaling and buying a packer alongside a blast chiller, a mixer and refrigeration, the combined schedule is straightforward to place. Bags and consumables are running costs and never form part of the agreement.

Who buys one

Restaurants running sous vide and batch prep, butchers and delis attached to hospitality businesses, food producers supplying farm shops and wholesale, and dark kitchens packing for delivery. The trigger is usually waste or shelf life: a kitchen prepping ahead needs product to last the week, or a producer has won an account that requires properly sealed, labelled packs rather than cling film and a tray.

How it is treated for tax

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.

Vacuum packer finance questions

Is a countertop vacuum packer big enough to finance?

On its own, usually not, because the value falls under most funders’ minimum facility size. It funds without difficulty as a line on a wider kitchen schedule alongside refrigeration, a blast chiller or cooking equipment, which is how most operators buying one during a fit-out end up doing it.

Can I fund a vacuum packer and a water bath together?

Yes, and they belong on the same schedule since they do the same job. Sous vide circulators and thermal baths are low-value items that would struggle alone, but alongside a chamber machine they form a sensible package. Add the blast chiller too if you are buying one, because that is the strongest asset of the three.

Do the bags and pouches go on the finance?

No. Bags, pouches and labels are consumables bought continuously, so they sit in your running costs rather than on an asset agreement. It is worth pricing them carefully before you choose a machine, because bag cost across a year can exceed the difference between two models you are comparing.

Is a used chamber machine a sensible thing to finance?

Often yes, provided the pump has been serviced and the machine comes from a dealer who can warrant it. The oil pump is the expensive component and a neglected one will need work immediately. Funders accept trade-supplied refurbished machines readily; they are far less keen on private sales with no history.

Will I need this for a food business supplying wholesale?

If you are selling packed product to shops or caterers, proper sealing and labelling is usually a requirement rather than a preference, and your environmental health officer and any retail customer will expect it. From a funding perspective that is helpful, because a machine bought against a confirmed wholesale account is easy to justify.
