Fund a timber grapple or grab for a crane, excavator or loader, usually as part of a wider machine purchase rather than on its own.

Sometimes, but rarely by itself. A timber grab is a durable hard item with a serial number, yet it is a low-value attachment whose resale depends on matching a specific crane or hitch, so most funders will not open an agreement for one alone — it falls below their minimum advance and the security is too narrow. Where it works is as part of a larger purchase: a grab supplied with a crane, a trailer or an excavator on the same invoice is funded without a second thought. If you are replacing a worn grapple on kit you already own, expect to be steered towards an unsecured facility.
Used kit: Yes — used grabs are fundable in principle, though the low value means they are almost always packaged with a larger asset.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
This is the smallest end of attachment lending and the panel is genuinely limited. The grab is hard security in principle, but its value is a fraction of the machine it hangs off, and the buyer has to run a compatible crane with the right rotator and hitch. Funders therefore prefer to see it on an invoice with something substantial. Where a grab is bought alone, the decision is effectively an unsecured one and rests on trading record, bank conduct and personal covenant. Private sales are frequent because grapples come off decommissioned machines and get sold on directly, and any funder looking at one will want an invoice, the serial number and clear title. The usual reason for a decline is simply that the advance is too small to be worth writing.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Timber hauliers and forestry contractors replacing a grapple that has worn out its bushes and rotator, and arb firms fitting a grab to an excavator or loader to handle butts and brash in the yard. The trigger is usually damage or wear rather than expansion. Firewood yards buy them to feed a processor and to load customer vehicles without double handling.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Two reasons. The advance is usually below the minimum a funder will write, and the resale market is limited to buyers with a matching crane and rotator. Neither is a comment on your business. The realistic routes are to package it with a bigger purchase or to fund it unsecured on trading strength.
Yes, easily, and it is the normal way it is done. A trailer, crane and grapple supplied together on one invoice is funded as a complete outfit. Specify the grapple you want at the point of order rather than adding it six months later, when it becomes a standalone attachment purchase.
If it is on the same invoice, yes. Rotators are usually supplied fitted, which keeps it simple. Bought as a separate spare part it is treated as a component rather than an asset, and components are not fundable because they have no independent resale identity once installed.
It can be done, but the paperwork is harder. You need an invoice from an identifiable seller, the grapple serial number and confirmation that nothing is outstanding against the parent machine. Funders are wary of parts sales because title can be unclear, so expect more questions than with a dealer purchase.
Frequently, yes. For a modest sum where the security is not attractive to an asset funder, an unsecured business loan decided on turnover and bank conduct is often quicker and less bureaucratic. It costs more than secured lending, but for a low-value attachment the difference in total outlay is modest.
